Tiru ViLaiyadal Puranam

There is one story about Poet Idaikadar.  Once the poet wrote a
beautiful poem and took it to the king, Kulesa Pandya, in Madurai
court.  He read out the poem, expecting that the king would enjoy
his poetry and also give some gifts.  The king did not know how to
enjoy the nieceties of poetry and sat like a stone.  He also did not
gift anything to Idaikadar.  The poet became very sad, went straight
to Somasundara - Meenkashi temple and read out the poem and cried
to Siva:  "O God! I am ashamed.  The king does not understand this
poem."  Siva said: "O my devotee, do not worry.  I love this poem so
much, that I would like to listen to it everyday.  So I and Uma are
coming to your place."  Siva and Uma went to the bank of Vaigai river and stayed in a small hut there to listen to the poet's songs.  Next
morning, the devotees who went to the temple, found the Siva Lingam missing!  They all searched.  The king became panicky.  Someone then told that Siva Linga is in a hut on the banks of Vaigai, near Idaikadar's
small house there.  The king and subjects rushed there and prostrated before Siva.  The king knelt down and wept before Siva.  Siva said:
"This is for your treatement of Idaikadar.  Go and take him to the palace on a golden palanquin, sit before him on floor and listen to his poems!"  The king quickly called Idaikadar and tendered his apology
and did what Siva had said.  Siva and Meenakshi resumed to the
Temple thereafter.
