Sri Ramana Chatvarimsat
« on: March 14, 2009, 10:48:41 AM »
Sometime in 1942, a devotee asked Bhagavan Ramana why the slokas are  only forty in number in Chatvarimsat and why they are of different metres.  Bhagavan Ramana said:

"Nayana wanted to compose 100 verses.  He also sent from Sirsi
one sloka with his letter.  These slokas, Nayana had said, come under
different chapters and so they were in different metres.  By the time,
he passed away, there were only 40 slokas.  Only one dasaka was complete with 10 slokas.  Then I arranged them into one order of 40 slokas."

In one beautiful verse, Nayana says:  "O Ramana, Lord of Sannysasins! You are like a good cook in the services of God. You are demolishing the egos of human animals and cooking meals for Siva."

Bhagavan Ramana is a good cook!  All devotees know His culinary
expertise in the kitchen.  But Nayana says He is cooking the egos of the devotees, for Siva!

Bhuvane bhupate, Bhagavatah krite,
Bhavasi pachako yamavatam pate,
Narapasooniman ahami tadayan,
Parasivodanam vithanushe pachan!
