How to get rid of Vasanas etc., ? - 7

Padamalai verses on Pranayama and other hatha yoga practices.

Verse 56:

Padam graciously bestows the majesty of truth by destroying the enemy, delusion, putting an end to the misery of controlling the
breath through hatha yoga.

Verse 2213:

For those who are attempting to know their real nature, the pure
consciousness, through the grace of Bhagavan, the method of pranayama (breath control) is a deluding attachment.

When Bhagavan spoke about the practice of pranayama, he was
rarely as critical as He is in these two verses.  Usually, He would
say that pranayama could be a useful preliminary aid for devotees
who could not otherwise control their minds.  He would, though,
almost always add that the effect of breath control was always
temporary.  Thus is what He said in Who am I? also.

".... Prana comes out (after one inhalation), the mind will also
come out and wander under the influence of Vasanas.... Pranayama
is only an aid for controlling the mind, it will not bring about its

He also says in the same writings to M. Sivaprakasam Pillai:

"Keeping the mind fixed in the Self at all times, is called Self enquiry.
Whereas thinking oneself to be Brahman which is Sat Chit Ananda,
(Being Consciousness and Bliss), is meditation. Eventually, all that
one has learnt will have to be forgotten."

Saint Poet Tayumanavar says, in Chapter 28, Verse 25 of his work:

" Those who have attained the auspicious Siva-Jnana say that in
the state of true mouna, there is no "I".

The natural state of mouna is spontaneously revealed when the activity of "I" is nullified.

Dear srkudai,

Yes.  The apparent feeling that we are affected/pained, comes
because of our identification with anything other than the Self.
When one slowly grduates into the process of Self realization, then
this feeling becomes less and less and then disappears totally.  This
is in other words, the annihilation of Vasanas.  Bhagavan Ramana duing His last days had a terrific pain giving illness. When the
attendant asked him: "Bhagavan! Is it paining?"  Bhagavan Ramana
said: "Yes, the body is paining!"
