The medicine of Vaitheeswara Swami
« on: February 23, 2009, 04:07:12 PM »
Sri Vaitheeswara Swami is Siva of Vaitheeswaran Kovil temple,
which is about 40 kms from Chidambaram.  Oneday Saint Poet
Kalamegam went there.  He went to the food choultery first.
All travellers had sumptuous food but he had no food since the
stock was over.  He had to stay in the choultery pained in hunger.
The chaps who had eaten were yawning and sleeping joyfully.
He went to the Vaitheeswaran Temple and prayed to Siva.

O Vaitheeswara, people say you have got
Medicine which is nothing but the sand* in the molehill!
What illness would it  cure?
It may cure the indigestion of the fellows who have overeaten.
But will it cure my burning hunger?
Please tell me quickly and give me a pinch of that sand!

(* In Vaitheeswaran Kovil, the temple authorities give the sand
from the molehill inside the temple as a cure for illnesses.  Even
today this practice is there and many people take this sand and
give it to the sick for cure.  The poet says that the medicine might
cure indigestion but how about his my hunger.)
Guhai Namasivaya has sung about Tiruvannamalai, sadhus.

Siva darsanam,
Mata bhojanam,
Vedanta vicharam,
Ananda Sayanam!
