Thoughts on Sivaratri
« on: February 23, 2009, 08:35:16 AM »
Under Talks 218, dated 30th June 1936:  Bhagavan  has been looking
into the Siva Purana this day.  He says Siva has the transcendental and immanent aspects as represented by His invisible, transcendental being and the Linga aspect respectively. The Linga
originally manifested as Arunachala stands even to this day.  This manifestation was then the moon was in he constelletion of Orion,
Ardra, in December.  However it was first worshipped on Sivaratri day, in February, which is held sacred even now.

Bhagavan has also described this in His translation of some verses of Arunachala Mahatmyam.  As Nandi's statement verse 2 of the composition, it is described in the same fashion.

There is an old saying in Tamil:

All lands are Kasi, (Nilam)
All waters are Ganga (Neer)
All places are Thillai (Sthalam, Chidambram)
All mountains are Arunagiri (Malai)

Arunachala Siva.
