The Concept of Sri Dakshinamoorthy -2
« on: February 21, 2009, 11:38:45 AM »
In continuation of what I posted yesterday, I shall share a few
more information on Sri Dakshinamoorthy.

1. Sri Dakhshinamoorthy is said to stay as Arunagiri Siddha, in the northern side of Arunachala.  Some one queried: If He is sitting on
the northern side, how come He can face the south, He should be only facing the north, because the Hill is there behind Him.  This query has been clarified by Sri Sadhu Om.  No doubt, Sri Dakshinamoorthy is sitting on the northern side of the Hill.  But He is facing, with His head bent, to His Heart on the right chest. Then, it means that He is looking only at the southern side!

2. In the 108 Holy Names of Bhagavan Ramana, there are two names connected with Sri Dakshinamoorthy.

Name 48: Dakshinasya Nibhaya Namah:

One who is none other than Sri Dakshinamoorthy, Prostrations to Him.

Name 50: Dakshinabhi mukha Namah:

One who is facing the south.

Bhagavan Ramana always used to sit facing south, in the Old Hall
and then later in the Jubilee Hall and much later in the Bathroom,
where He was sitting/lying in His last days.

3. There is an exquisite stone image of Sri Dakshinamoorthy in
Mother's Temple.  Seeing this, Rajagopalachari, Chief Minister
of the then Madras state, called the Sthapathi and gave him the
work of constructing the Gandhi Mantapam, in Adyar, Chennai.

4. Bhagavan Ramana has translated Sri Dakshinamoorthy Stotram
in Tamil verses.  In order to remember the order of verses, He has
also made a small sentence containing the first letters of that Tamil stotram, so that the young boys and girls and devotees reading the Tamil stotram can remember the verse without faltering!

Arunachala Siva.
