Why did Narayana ask Lakshmi to roll up the bed (Adisesha)?
« on: February 20, 2009, 12:58:25 PM »
There is one more poem by Saint Poet Kalamegam.  Once Upamanyu,
child of Sage, Vyakrapada, (the Sage with tiger feet, constantly watching the dance of Nataraja in Chidambaram), was crying for milk. The child had no mother and his father was constantly in
meditation, watching Nataraja's dance.  So, Siva ordered the milky ocean, to come down to Chidambaram, to feed the child!  Narayana on observing that the milky ocean was suddenly going out to Chidambaram, became panicky and asked Lakshmi:  "O slender Devi staying in red lotus!  Please roll up the bed (Adisesha) and come quickly to Chidambaram, I should get back the milky ocean from
Siva!

The lord lying on the large expanse of milky ocean,
Suddenly told Lakshmi: O Devi, roll up the Adisesha,
Sankara has given the milky ocean to Upamanyu,
Let us rush to Ambalam*, I am getting panicky,
And get back the milky ocean, the bed might also be lost!

* Ambalam, the Dancing Court at Thillai, Chidambaram,
where Siva is dancing.
