Siva as Bhikshatana (beggar)
« on: February 19, 2009, 12:03:55 PM »
Once Poet Kalamegam, went to Chidambaram Nataraja.  Siva was coming out to the streets for procession, in the dress of Bhikshatana, no ornaments, only a dhoti and a begging bowl.  Kalamegam saw
this procession, Siva coming out as meek beggar.  He sang a song
extempore:

O Siva, you are always begging and are meek!
That is why, one girl climbed over your head, with
   ferocious sound!*
Another occupied half of your form without rent!*
One fellow in the forest gave a blow with his sandal! ***
Another chap hit you with an arrow!****
You are meek and quiet indeed!
