Miracles Do Happen
« on: January 15, 2009, 09:16:28 AM »
Once on a morning of 1946, squirrels came to Bhagavan Ramana's sofa
for cashew nuts. The tin containing cashew nuts was empty and Bhagavan Ramana then tried to give groundnuts but squirrels would not eat them. They were crawling over the sofa without eating groundnuts.
Bhagavan Ramana then asked attendant Krishnaswami to go to the kitchen and bring some cashew nuts.  Krishnaswami went and brought only a few nuts.  Bhagavan Ramana asked: Why only a few?  The attendant replied that they were preparing some "payasam" (sweet porridge) that night and they could spare only a few nuts.  Bhagavan
Ramana was annoyed and then said: I see. Payasam will not be less
tasteful if the cashew nuts are a little less than the usual quantity. What a pity!  These squirrels do not eat any thing less and they are worrying me. The storekeeper has declined to give cashew nuts saying that they will have to put them into the Payasam.  Who will be worried if there are no cashew nuts in the Payasam?  See how these children are worrying themselve for want of cashew nuts!"

The same evening, Dr. Ananthanarayana Rao brought from Madras two visa (about 4.5 kilograms) of cashew nuts, saying that he had brought them for the squirrels!  With a smile, Bhagavan Ramana said addressing Krishnawami:  Look at this. They are earning whatever they want. There is no need to beg of you!  These cashew nuts are their property. Keep them carefully. Note that they should not be given to the storeroom. Take care!"
