Triupalli Ezhuchchi - 8
« on: January 12, 2009, 10:10:42 AM »
The Verse 8 speaks about the primordiality of Siva.  Saint Manikkavachagar also describes how Siva gave him darshan, first
as Effulgence, the second as Sivalinga and third as a Brahmin Guru.
The Effulgence is formless Siva, Sivalinga is both as form and formless,
and finally the Brahmin Guru, in form.

The girls sing:

O the Primordial!  You are beyond creation, sustenance and dissolution.
(You are beginningless and endless), beyond all kala-tattva.  The three
primary gods, Brahma, Vishnu and Rudra*, do not know who is the Master
who gave them instructions. (Brahma represents creation, Vishnu,
represents sustenance and Rudra represents dissolution).  Who else
can then know you?  But you stay in all the old houses of the devotees,
who know you.  You stay there with your consort, Uma who has got
tender fingers with play-ball.   O Siva, you came as an Effuglence first
in Uttarakosa Mangai, then as a Siva Linga, in Tiruperundurai temple,
and then you came as my Brahmin Guru, in Tirukazhukundram and
took charge of me and ruled me.  O the rare Substance, please wake
up and bless us!

(* Rudra is one of the forms of Siva.  Siva has got five faces.  They
are Rudra, Aghora, Vamadeva, Paramasiva and Sadasiva.  Sadasiva
is the Primordial Effulegence. While Rudra is held on par with Brahma
and Vishnu, the other four faces are above the trimuvarites.)

Arunachala Siva.
