Daily Discipline in Tiruvannamalai
« on: December 25, 2008, 05:11:28 PM »
Bhagavan Sri Ramana is noted for His utmost discipline.  Even without
looking at the clock, He used to take up daily routine with immense
punctuality.  He has said that the discipline in our daily duties will
automatically bring about discipline towards self enquiry.  He used
to get up at 3 AM or even earlier on every morning.  Daily abulations,
breakfast, sessions in the Old Hall, lunch, evening sessions, dinner,
post dinner dialogues and going to bed were all taking place in the
Asramam with utmost time schedule.

Last week's visit was the third during the year for us.  I found that in
all the three visits, I could follow utmost discipline in daily work.  I
could get up around 3 A.M and after three hours of prayer, took bath
and got ready to the Asramam by 6.30 AM.  In between chanting
Tiruvembavai and Tirupalli Ezhuchi. After seeing Matrubhuteswara
Siva and Sri Ramaneswara Linga Siva,  we could proceed to for break fast.  The break fast was served exactly at 7 AM.  The book shop opens at 7.30 AM. After an hour's browsing, we got back to the shrines for prayer.
Then we sat silently watching the peacocks and monkeys, feeding them
with plantains.  Then again going to Ramaneswara Mahalinga, we were
watching the morning pooja.  Around 11.15 AM. we were standing in the
queue for lunch.  After lunch, again come back to the book shop, buy
books.  Around 3.30 pm, Tamil and English readings of Bhagavan's
biographies were listened to.  At 4 pm tea.  Getting into the Old Hall,
that reverbrates with Bhagavan's Powerful Presence.  Come back and listen to Tamil and Sanskrit parayana.  Again book shop.  Watching nature.
Lookiing at the Hill for the Light, the Maha Deepa. Around 7.30 PM,
simple dinner.  Getting back to the guest house, thanking Bhagavan
Ramana for the day.  Read books at the guest house. No TV no news paper, no wasteful chatter.  Watching the unflinching Maha Deepa
on the Hill. Go to sleep at around 9 PM. Dreamless deep sleep.  This discipline of ours simply surprised us during the three days.

Back at Bangalore, the laziness and indiscipline re-start.  I was
telling my wife, at least for the sake of mental and body discipline,
we should permanently stay in Tiruvannamalai, regardless of the
heat and hot summers.  If Bhagavan Ramana wills, He will arrange
for it.

Arunachala Siva.

Dear Subramanian,
Dont forget this doctor if you settle in Tiruvannamalai. He will play the roles of son and doctor for both
of you.My wife may play a role of ideal daughter-in-law but you may have to give the gold all that you have.

Dear Dr. Raju,

Thank you very much for your wonderful hospitality.  I am sure
to avail it.  In fact, I checked up with people there in the Asramam.
They said that a two-bed room, kitchen, hall flat/house will cost
around Rs 8 to Rs 9 lacs.  Bhagavan Ramana should make it possible.

Arunachala Siva.
