Poyyadimai Illathar (63 Siva Saints)
« on: December 19, 2008, 12:06:32 PM »
Poyyadimai Illathar, is a common name given to the group of Saint-
Poets, who lived in Madurai during the First Sangam Period. (300 BC).
There were many scholars in Tamil Sangam, in Madurai, who realized
that lives' purpose is to attain Sivahood.  There were 49 poets in Madurai
Sangam, and they belonged to different religious faith.  There were
Buddhists, Jains and Saivas.  This group speaks together about the
Siva Saint-Poets, like Nakkirar, Kapilar, Kalladar, Bharanar, Varaguna
Pandyar etc.,   They were constantly praying to Siva and they spoke and
wrote only nice things about the Truth.  They always sought the Truth.
They spread the Truth.  'Poy' means in Tamil, falsehood.  These Saint
Poets never comprehended in life what is false.

They all merged in Siva through such great devotion and life.
