Appayya Dikshitar
« on: December 17, 2008, 04:24:11 PM »
Once some pandits came from Kasi and asked Appayya Dikshitar,
whether he had mastered all sastras like logic, grammar and the
rest.  Appayya simply said:   I do not know much of sastras and
grammar, and logic.  I only know devotion to Siva, wearing crescent
moon in his matted locks, the killer of Tripura.

The same Appayya wrote a incomparable commentary to Sri
Vedanta Desika's famous visishtadvaita work called Yadavaptuda.

Once there was a Kamakshi Upasaka called Ratnaketaka Dikshitar.
He was jealous of Appayya Dikshitar and he meditated on Kamakshi
to bless him with victory over Appayya Dikshitar.  Kamakshi appeared
before Ratnaketaka Dikshitar and told him:  You can never win over
Appayya Dikshitar, who is full of total grace from Siva, my husband.
It is better to make friends with him.  Ratnaketaka Dikshitar then
gave her daugther to Appayya Dikshitar by giving her hand to
Appayya Dikshitar.
