Verses on Pongal
« on: November 10, 2008, 02:01:41 PM »
Pongal or Sankaranti, is a festival, after harvest in many parts of
India, happening sometime between Jan and Feb.  On this day,
people prepare, Sweet Pongal, with rice, dhal, jaggery and milk.
When the milk swells in the pots, they cry:  Pongalo Pongal...
O Sankranti milk is swelling......

Muruganar celebrated one such happy occasion in the Asram,
and sang this poem.

With the world of many colours, with food of six tastes,
With pleasures of five senses, let us go past these,
For these would delude us, and sink our soul into Maya,
And threaten us with duality, let us go away from this jugglery,
And pray to Ramana's feet, and enjoy only one taste, rasa
of advaita, shouting Pongalo Pongal, with happiness on this day,
Let us seek His grace, always and greet Him,
And be proud with this glory of the Self.  Every year,
You are celebrating Pongal festival, but let us celebrate
Fesival every day with Ramana, as Pongalo Pongal!
