Dear Ramanaduli,

Lotus is of two varieties.  The red lotus is equated to the feet, hands
and face of a Guru or a God.  Pankajam, Ambhujam, Sarorukam,
there are said to be 50 names for louts, as per Amara Kosam, a
Sanskrit dictionary.  In Tiruvembavai, last song, Manikkavachagar,
says:  His feet are like lotus.  This lotus is at the beginning of Vedas,
middle of Vedas, and the end of Vedas.  His face is like lotus.  This
face looks at Uma, Ganapati, Skanda and me!

The full bloomed lotus is again equated to the Heart.  It could
be post organic heart and the Heart mentioned by Bhagavan Ramana.
The lotus is a flower of Hindu traditions.   Even Buddha has mentioned
his Sutras as Hrudaya Kamala Sutra, Heart Sutra, Prajna Parimita etc.,
He is said to have shown a lotus flower to his disciple Govinda or
Nagarjuna, and and then merged with the Godhead.

Dear Ramanaduli,
Lotus is an unique flower. It draws it's food from the mud, grows in the mud into a very beautiful flower yet untouched by the mud..It opens it's petals
in response to Sun rays.So also our consciousness with  it's seeming imprisonement in the mud of tendencies flowers into a
beautiful self conscious being in the Sun like presence of Guru and there is blooming of lotus of self awareness which is then untouched by the tendencies. The Guru is a self conscious being present in the mud of the
society yet untouched by the ways of society. His feet are described as lotus feet because they are the source(Padam) through which one can touch and establish in his own self.
Bhagawan said spiritual heart(kamalalaye) is situated on right side of chest in an inverted lotus form.

Dear Raju ji and Subramaniyan ji

Thanks for giving lots of information about the lotus. I want to add some more to this. They say, in sahasrara there is 1000 petal lotus. In yoga they say there is sushumna nadi which is like a thread. So this lotus also have a thread sort of thing inside of its stem. Its leaves though are in water but not having on it (Gita says we should be in samsara like kamala patra)

Once again thank you.

Dear Ramanaduli,

You are correct. Sahasrara is a thousand petalled lotus, whose
stem originates from Mooladhrara.  Mooladhara is referred to as
a root of the lotus flower.  Please see Sri Soundarya Lahari meaning
for more elaboration.
