Why am I tired of births and deaths?
« on: October 31, 2008, 12:16:22 PM »
All of us have felt sometime or other, "Why these births and deaths?"
One Americal hippie has sung:  "Please stop the world! I want to
get out!"  These feelings are expressed one way or other.

Saint Arunagiri Natha, who sang thousands of songs in praise of
Skanda, Muruga in Tamil, has got a song which runs like this:

I do not want births and deaths because,

The vultures, crows, and the jackals have become
tired of eating my flesh in the burial ground!

Brahma is tired of taking his pot* and making births
    for me endlessly!

Yama is tired of coming on his ox and taking me  to
    death again and again!

My children are tired of checking my bank balance
    every time I die!

My wife is tired of removing her mangala-sutra**
    everytime!

(* Brahma is supposed to create all living beings from a pot,
   which contains primordial seeds.
** This is a yellow thread with a gold pendant that women wear at the time of marriage and remove when their husbands die.)

See the poetic imagination.

Arunachala Siva.

Dear Subraaniyan ji

Like Arunagiri swamigal, I request you to write about Pattinathar Life History and his poems.
All his poems are like upanishads.

Dear Ramanaduli,

Pattinathar was a Siva Raja Yogi.  He spoke of Advaita only.  He
lived somewhere near Karaikal, in Pondycherry.  He is a Siddha,
who wrote a lot of Advaitic Tamil poems.  I shall write about him
later.

Arunachala Siva.
