What is real life and death
« on: October 27, 2008, 04:58:11 AM »

What is the meaning of life and death in actual sense?  The absense of Ego gives real meaning to life and death.
Is it right?

Dear Ramanaduli,
Death i.e dying to the past is the flowering of understanding of life.Living in the present moment with awareness without
the shadow of the past is life.Only when we die to the past something new can happen. If we are aware in the present moment we die to
the past.Truth is always new and if we want to participate in it we have die to the past every moment so that Truth can happen to us.
So death is complimentary to life,it is not an ending of life as many think it to be.

Dear Ramanaduli,

Death is always living in thoughts about the past and the future.
Living is being in the present moment.  A cricket batsman, if he
keeps on thinking about the last ball he had faced, which he did not
play well, he is ruined.  If he also thinks always about the next ball,
which is yet to be bowled, even here, he is ruined.  If he plays only
the ball that is currently knowledge, and plays well that ball, he
is successful.  Living in the present moments is a great joy.

T.S. Eliot has sung:

Time Past and Time Future are the in the Time that is present.

Dear Subramanian,
Eliot's observation is true but time does not exist in the present moment. In the flight of mind from past to the future psychological
time seems to exist but in the essential sense(Paramarthika) psychological time does not exist.Psychological time is just a mental concept.

Dear Dr. Raju,

You are correct. Even time is not there in Ajata Vada, Advaita of Gaudapada, Sankara and Bhagavan Ramana.  They speak about
moment-to-moment awareness only.
