How much one should eat for living?
« on: October 21, 2008, 12:11:17 PM »
We all know that Bhagavan Ramana never took much food.
In the early days in the Temple precincts and then at Vahana
Mantapam, Patala Lingam, Vazhai Thoppu and other places,
He practically starved.  Later when some devotees brought food,
he took a mixture of rice gruel and other stuff, only a tumbler full
per day.  Even that food, a major part of it was remaining in His
mouth and it had to scooped out by devotees like Palaniswami,
the next day.  He was taking one food per day for a long time,
starving at night.  When someone came to visit Him and on that
rainy night, when some other parties brought some coconut, sugar
and plantains, the devotees made a mixture and the devotees were
taking that and Bhagavan Ramana took something at that night, saying:
"With this I am breaking my 365 days fasting at nights!"

Once Annamalai Swami, asked  Bhagavan Ramana, whether he could
live with some coconut, jaggery, one unripe mango, some peanuts,
for a day, Bhagavan said "O!  Why not?  Go ahead.  These items will
give you some diarrohea in the initial days, but do not worry."
Annamalai Swami lived on that type of food for many days and
found more time to remain still or meditate!
