Druga Pooja Celebrations
« on: September 29, 2008, 11:53:19 AM »
Today is the commencement of Durga Pooja Celebrations.
This festival of 10 days, is celebrated in West Bengal, Karnataka
and Tamil Nadu, with much more festivity than in other states.
Durga takes different weapons from different gods and also
different gods in their feminine forms to fight the demons.
Kaumari, Vaishanvi, Maahendri, Brami, to mention a few.
This morning, I was thinking why She should take different
weapons from different gods.  Was not the trident sufficient?
Then, I thought, esoterically these may mean different things.
Like we should have different qualties to fight against different
vices.  Perseverence for pain, Patience for the anger, Tolerance
for misdeeds of others, Concentration for overcoming distracting
thoughts, Meditation for the fleeting mind etc.,

Dear Subrahmaniyan ji

What you said is correct. I also used to think, how Goddess can get this much angry when it is discribed she is Shantha sworupini. When I got angry I put this same question to my self. My mind gave lots of reason. After coming to Bhagavan's feet my understanding got widened. Whatever I do is not correct. Because I am doing with the impurity of mind. whereas Goddess know where and how to show the anger. She does to protect the Dharma and wipes out adharma. There is lot of difference with human anger. Every God has some weapon at least two they have One is pasa and anghusham. to save the souls. But without any outer weapons Bhagavan drew the souls and saved from the samsara. He gave the weapon to each one of us i.e. WHO AM I. Some pure minded soul use perfectly and come out from samsara. I do not know whether am I using correctly.  I got the weapon but I do not know how to use and when. Otherwise by this time I would have....
i do not know what to tell.....

Dear Ramanaduli,  Pasam is catch the mind that falters.  Angusam
is to punish to teach a lesson.  In Natraja idol, every thing that he
wears, be it snakes, be it Ganga, be it Brahma's skull,  be it moon,
all these have esoteric meanings.  So also the the fire, the hand-
drum and the apasmara or the demon under his right leg, all these
have inner meanings.  These are explained in a book called The
Dance of Siva, by David Smith, in his book and also in a poem
called Kunjithangri Stavvam by Umapathi Sivam, a great poet
who lived in Chidambaram.  He was doing in poojas in the Nataraja
Temple in Chidambaram and later became a Siva Yogi, an exponent
in Siva Yogam under his guru, Arul Nandi Sivam.
