Part 9 - Thiru manjana Venba - Glory of Holy Bathing Waters:

"Thiru manjanam", in all sects of Hinduism, indicates the waters
that are used for bathing the sculptor of gods and goddesses.  While
the bathing, is done with milk, honey, coconut water, perfumed
water, honey, fruit jams, sandal paste, vibhuti (in case of Siva
lingams only), rose water and plain water, the waters with turmeric
paste is of special significance, particularly for goddesses.  In
orthodox Hindu familiies in India, even today women bathe in
water mixed with turmeric powder, even though days have changed
with a variety of shampoos!  Turmeric is a anti-spectic and it
is used by women to remove the unwanted hairs on the legs and
hands.  Saint Manikkavachakar has got a decad called 'Tirupor-
chunnam, bathing Siva, with a bathing powder, mixed with gold
powder!  In Siva manasa pooja, Sankara mentions about cool
waters of Himalayas and kasturi and sandal paste!  Again in
Chatur-shashti Upacharam, Sankara mentions bathing Mother
Uma, with various perfumes, water, sandal paste and turmeric

We have got only 10 songs of Guhai Namasivaya in this part.

Bhagavan while staying in the temple precincts of Arunachalesvarar
Temple, in the early days, was given the milk mixed with all these,
after bathing Siva and Unnamualai, by a merciful priest, as food to drink!   Bhagavan Sri Ramana, the son of  Siva, was given this prasad to drink
for several days, when he was not taking any food in the Temple!

1. O Arunachala! Your holy bathing waters shall prevent birth for
me, give me a godly form, confer all the necessary wealth for my
living, gives death conquering nectar.

to be contd.....

Arunachala Siva.
