Parikala Venba - Glory of Siva's devotees: continues.....

1. O Arunachala, it is your bounden duty to bring the devotees
ashore from the ocean of samsara and protect them ever at
your lotus feet.  It is your promise from the time immemorial
and if you fail, it will be an injustice to them.

2. O Arunachala, you are having a third eye on your forehead.
O, who created this world, it is your duty to use that third eye
and burn the lives of those fellows,  who do not give alms to
your devotees and also prevent others from giving alms.

3. O mighty Arunachala, who is having matted red locks and
an eye on the forehead, how come today, the daily alms of
four mini-measures* of rice, are reduced to two mini-measures?

(* In Tamil, the word 'naazhi' is used here.  One 'naazhi' roughly
comes to one handful or about 50 grams of grains.)

4. O Arunachala, you are giving one handful of rice per day and
the townsfolk give one more handful of rice.  How come to day,
you have given your quota of rice to your retinue and make us
go without rice?

to be contd....

Arunachala Siva.
