Ramana Ashram
« on: September 20, 2008, 10:32:04 AM »
I am planning in visiting Rama Ashram in a week from today (september 27th or 28th) from a period of two weeks.
I saw on previous posts email address for enquiries on accomodation at the Ashram - Thanks.
Is there any teaching or guidance available in the Ashram in case required?
(I encounter some difficulties in my current practice).
As far as I remember this the start of the monsoon season in Tami Nadu, from my experience in north India the monsoon is quite heavy - can someone kindly elaborate on how "bad" it is during this period down south?

Thanks,
Bill

Dear Billbill,

I am glad you are visiting Sri Ramansramam, in a week's time.
A few tips, since I have gone there, in the beginning of this week.

1. Stay is possible in Asram's guest houses, (inside and outside
Asram) only with prior written request and their written permission.
Further, no one can stay beyond three days in guest houses.  For
a longer stay, you choose a hotel, (there are many with different
levels of comforts), the charges will be around Rs 400 per day
for a double room.  Only vegetarian food will be available on
extra payment.

2. There is no rain in T. Malai right now. The temperature is around
35 degrees celsius.

3. Regarding self enquriy practices:-  People are quite busy in
Asram.  You may have to patiently request them and wait for their
convenience.  You may also ask fellow pilgrims.

4. You can eat inside the Asram.  Their timings are:-

7.00 am - Coffee/tea
11.30 am - lunch
4.00 pm    - tea
7.30 pm  - dinner

Arunachala Siva.

Announcements: Ramanasramam Website

S ri Ramanasramam has redesigned the website: http://www.sriramanamaharshi.org. The new design is ‘responsive’,
meaning the menu adapts to the screen size. The multilingual site includes English, Tamil, Hindi, Japanese, French and
Russian languages. We need volunteers to translate into Spanish, German and other languages. Those who wish to help with
translations may write to: ashram@gururamana.org. The new website allows free downloading of all issues of the Mountain
Path older than 2010. These may be found at: http://www.sriramanamaharshi.org/Mountain-Path/.
Visitors can learn to chant the Akshara Mana Malai at: http://www.sriramanamaharshi.org/portfolio-item/chantarunachala/. The old website can still be accessed at http://archival.sriramanamaharshi.org for any information that is
missing in the new website. Because of limited resources, the ashram has only tested the new website in Firefox, IE, Safari
and Google Chrome. Please send suggestions for improvement to: ashram@gururamana.org.

Obituary: Sri T. R. Srinivasan

In 1978 while working as a stenographer for the management of a Chennai engine
and valve factory, Sri T. R. Srinivasan got a diagnosis from physicians that he had
only six months to live. Thinking his life was at an end, he took time off and came to Sri
Ramanasramam for a week’s stay. During the visit he found himself called to stay on and
was blessed to begin service in the Ashram office. Meanwhile, in Bhagavan’s Ashram, his
health was restored and ‘TRS’, as he came to be known, faithfully served the Ashram for
the next 32 years. Known for his diligence, TRS was said to be ever mindful of Bhagavan’s
injunction regarding Ashram correspondence: letters should be answered the same day.
TRS was meticulous in his duties and gracious in his service to Ashram devotees.
In 2010, following a fall which left him with an impaired hip, TRS withdrew from
active life. His health was in decline for the last year until the afternoon of the 26th
September, at the age of 78, when he peacefully drew his last breath.

Radio Station
“Voice of Arunachala” is Internet radio station broadcast from Sri Ramanasramam, Tiruvannamalai, India. Sri Ramana Maharshi has written a verse meaning “This is Arunachala, Ocean of Compassion, one thought of whom bestows liberation”. Arunachala Mahatmyam states that “Arunachala Hill is the center of the Earth and the Heart of Lord Siva”.

The purpose of this radio station is to play songs, sacred chants, commentaries and readings from the works of Sri Ramana Maharshi and other saints glorifying Arunachala. We hope to bring the atmosphere of the ashram within the earshot of listeners anywhere in the world. Listeners are welcome to send suggestions for the improvement of the program.

Surrounded by admirers, ‪#‎Abhigya‬, 9, of Mysore, beams after a mellifluous recitation of Chapter 11 of the ‪#‎BhagavadGita‬, immediately following the ‪#‎Ramana‬ ‪#‎Sadguru‬ ‪#‎Tamil‬ ‪#‎parayana‬ at the ‪#‎sannidhi‬ of ‪#‎Sri‬ ‪#‎RamanaMaharshi‬ in ‪#‎Ramanasramam‬ ‪#‎Tiruvannamalai‬. In the absence of guru or teacher, Abhigya learned by heart the entire 700 verses of the ‪#‎SongofGod‬ on his computer, while living in Melbourne. The Shankaracharya of Sringeri has given him a certificate. Abhigya first visited Ramanasramam at the age of one.
