2. Vidu Thiru Namam - Chanting the Holy Name of Siva:-

1. O Arunachala Siva, Poets say that you have only several
arrows and one bower*. I do not believe.  You have got
only one arrow*** but several bowers in Chidambaram, Kumbakonam,
Sri Rangam and Karuvur!

This is a poem of excellent imagery.  Siva has got several arrows
and one bower, that is, back-sack for holding arrows.  But
Guhai Namasivaya says, he has got only one arrow, but
several bowers, which is unnatural.  But that is the Truth.
Vishnu is the only arrow, in Tripura Samhara.  (Even that he
did not use.  He simply smiled at Tripura and it  was burnt.)
But the bowers are many.  The bowers are here several Vishnu
temples, such as Chidambaram, Kumbakonam, Sri Rangam and

2. O Siva, one knows that you are creating several worlds,
Brahma, Vishnu, the sun and the moon and billions of living
creatures.  Then knowing this,  why should he kill a living being,
for his daily food?

3. The spider and the elephant* prayed to day and night.
Even after knowing this truth, if one does not  pray to you,
what future would await him, O Siva!

(* In a town called Tiruvanaika, in Siva temple, a spider and
an elephant were praying to Siva daily.  Both were two kings
in the previous births.  The spider used to make a web around
the Siva Lingam and thus gave shadow.  The elephant, on seeing
the web, got angry everyday and smashed up the web and placed
a lotus on the Siva Lingam.  One day, the spider went into the
elephant's trunk, bit it and killed and in the process, it also got
killed.  Both were blessed by Siva.)

to be contd....

Arunachala Siva.
