Guhai Namasivaya's Poems - (2)
« on: September 18, 2008, 01:21:37 PM »
It is said that Guhai Namasivaya lived for 200 years, writing one
poem on Arunachala each day.  After 100 years, the story goes
that Siva bade him to live for another 100 years to write poems on Him.

The poet had terrific power in his poems.  Once there was a 'foreign'
king, perhaps Portugese, who came to T.Malai, occupied the temple,
started vandalizing the temple and also plundering wealth from locals
and molesting young women.  The people had no defence.  They
came to Guhai Namasivaya and requested him to call Siva.

Guhai Namasivaya sang:

O Siva, Have your three eyes gone to sleep?
Have you lost the trident and the fire on your hands?
Do you not care for your devotees?
Are we cursed to die like this?

Siva sent the trident which came and pierced the foreign king
on his back, that he developed an incurable wound on his back
and died out of that wound.

One the day of his death, people in T.malai took a special bath,
wore new clothes and had a good dinner and also fed Guhai
Namasivaya with nice dinner with sweets.

to be contd...

Arunachala Siva.
