Tiru  Maraikkatu: (Vedaranyam):

Verse  1:

யாழைப்பழித் தன்னமொழி
    மங்கைஒரு பங்கன்
பேழைச்சடை முடிமேற்பிறை
    வைத்தான்இடம் பேணில்
தாழைப்பொழி லூடேசென்று
    பூழைத்தலை நுழைந்து
வாழைக்கனி கூழைக்குரங்
    குண்ணும்மறைக் காடே.

If one desires to worship the shrine of Siva who has on one half a lady, whose words ridicule the music produced in Yāzh, and who placed a crescent moon in his matted locks, coiled into a crown which is like a chest, it is definitely Maṟaikkāṭu, where the small monkeys creep through a narrow small door getting through the garden of fragrant screw-pine and enjoy eating plantain fruits.

Verse 10:

Composed by the father of Siṅkati,
who is near to god and has the title of Vaṉṟontaṉ Sundarar, belonged to the Brahmins as Siva Brahmanar, who perform worship in the sanctum, about Siva who has red matted locks on which he wears a circlet of great flowers and who adorned it with the Datura flowers of honey, cobra, Koṉṟai, crescent moon and a white skull, and the Lord of the Universe, the dweller in Sivalōkam, who is now in Tiruvāvaṭutuṟai for saving his devotees.  Those who are capable of reciting the ten flowers of cool Tamiḻ, with affection will not die and be born again.

Padigam on Tiru Avatuturai completed.

See 1st verse.
Siva who has the cosmic space as his country!
Who is the nectar that is the companion who accompanies the soul in its travel to the other world!
The ruby that is without any flaw!
This is the name of Siva in this shrine the meaning of the Vedas!
Who has on his chest the hog's big tusk, the shell of the tortoise and bones as adornments fit to be worn.
Who desired to be bathed in honey, ghee, milk and curd!
The chief!
Who is as majestic as the elephant in Tiruvāvaṭutuṟai!
Comfort me by assuring me, "Do not be afraid of anything!"

Bhagwan Sri Ramana: God and the Guru will only show the way to release; they will not by themselves take the soul to the state of release. In truth, God and the Guru are not different. Just as the prey which has fallen into the jaws of a tiger has no escape, so those who have come within the ambit of the Guru's gracious look will be saved by the Guru and will not get lost; yet, each one should by his own effort pursue the path shown by God or Guru and gain release. One can know oneself only with one's own eye of knowledge, and not with somebody else's. Does he who is Rama require the help of a mirror to know that he is Rama?

Sri Robert Adams:

In April 1950, I was in Bangalore to see Papa Ram Dass. When informed that Ramana has left his body, I went to Tiruvannamalai. The crowds had already started to come, thousands and thousands of people. So l climbed the hill and went into one of the caves, and stayed there for five days. When I came down the crowd had dispersed. He had already been interred. I enquired of his devotee who saw him last, "What were the last words he spoke?" He said, "While he was leaving the body, a peacock flew on top of a wall and started screeching. Ramana asked his attendant, 'Has anyone fed the peacock yet?' Those were his last words."

I have been to many teachers, many saints and many sages. I was with Nisargadatta, Anand Mayi Ma, Papa Ram Dass, Neem Karoli Baba and many others, but never did I meet anyone who exuded such compassion, such love, such bliss as Ramana Maharshi.

A sample from Sri Robert Adam's poems:

Who am I?

Feel your reality,
in the stillness,
in the quietness,
where there is no mind,
no thought, no words,
who are You then?
You just are.
I AM I AM.
I am not this
I am not that.
I AM.
I am that which has always been,
I am that which will always be,
I AM THAT I AM.

Devotee: I suppose one has to sublimate the ego-self into the true Self.

Bhagwan Sri Ramana Maharshi. The ego-self does not exist at all.

Devotee: Then why does it give so much trouble? Look at the havoc it has created among nations and people. It is dreadful even to oneself.

Bhagwan Sri Ramana. To whom is the trouble? The trouble also is imagined. Pain and pleasure are to the ego, which is itself imagined. When the ego disappears through constant enquiry into its nature, the illusion of pleasure and pain also disappears, and the Self, their Source, alone remains. There is neither ego nor ignorance in Reality.

Devotee: But how did the ego arise?

Bhagwan Sri Ramana. Ego is non-existent, otherwise you would be two instead of one - you the ego and you the Self. You are a Single, Indivisible Whole. Enquire into yourself, and the apparent ego and ignorance will disappear.

See 1st verse.
Siva who is as sweet as nectar without any sediment!
Who has the appearance of increasing benevolence!
The King who is worshipped the immortals, who do not wink!
Who has on one half of his body the part of a lady!
The master of all living beings.
The supreme god!
The supreme being who is in the most exalted place!
Who is as useful as a mountain without defects,
the hero who is always with benign benevolence!
The primordial thing in Tiruvāvaṭutuṟai!
Comfort me by assuring me, "Do not be afraid of anything."

Arunachala Siva.

See 1st verse.
Siva who has the skin wet with blood, of the big and cruel elephant!
Who dresses himself with the skin of a tiger,
The chief of positive injunctions to do a thing and that for not doing a thing.
Who is the truth absolute.
Who is different from this world
and granted your grace by giving a strong discus to Vishnu, when he desired it.
(See notes on the 3rd verse of the previous decade.)
Who has a red form!
Who is the brilliant light.
Who has an eye of fire.
The master who is in Tiruvāvaṭutuṟai!
Comfort me by assuring me, "Do not by afraid of anything."

Arunachala Siva.

See 1st verse.
Who are my relations except you?
The fullness without deficiency!
Person of noble character, "Literally this means a mountain of good qualities."
Dancer!
God who wears a men's ear-ring!
I, your slave have no relations except you.
Do you lose anything by forgiving one fault?
The refined gold in Tiruvārūr, surrounded by garden in which bees with wings, hum?
The embodiment of righteous acts who is in Tiruvāvaṭutuṟai!
Please comfort me assuring me, Do not be afraid of anything!
