The teachings of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi / Re: Death Of Mind!
« on: June 05, 2009, 08:51:49 AM »
I feel, now that we know that we are not the body but the consciousness within, in that case, it does not matter to know about the body and its birth, grows decays...

We are not different from the body. The Brahman pervades everywhere. Don't "See" Body, just be as consciousness. In this case Body is also a thought only, here the Ego is expressing itself as the body, the best course is to abide as Self or consciousness witness.

In Cardiac operations, Doctors stop the heart beats and perform the operation and then they make the heart beat, then what is there in body? why does he not die? He comes back to life again.

Its the tendency of Ego-Mind to move away from Consciousness. It wants change, hence questions keep coming up.

Its like this, imagine, you are sitting as one among 100 odd members in a very boring lecture, and you want so badly to get up leave the hall, but our dignity will not allow to leave the room abruptly. Its like this, the situation of our ego forcing itself to sit as consciousness. But with due diligence and patience, with understanding, when we really pay attention to the Lecture and involve ourselves by listening with real interest, then the Ego is no more active, its lost. The Conscciousness prevails.

Body is only a thought manifestation of our Ego.

Ramana Maharshi has said - "to think is not your real nature" also he has said - "give your body to nature and yourself to me"

It only appears in our eyes, that they are singing about themselves for we are still unrealised. But for a Jnani, it will be nothing at all. He is always in blissful inaction. Only for us, who are still unrealised itseems like this. It is said in scriptures, that once realised, a jnani will remain like an ordinary person but he will be in supreme bliss but we are in the world of thoughts and they are thoughtless.

The grinding happens, continues, and then finally, this phase has to vanish. I think it is inevitable. Yes it's tough to strike a balance between both. It means dispassion has arisen. its a position of neither here nor there. Eventually, through discrimination, dispassionate ones will permanently settle on the banks of the Self and will remain in Bliss as Blissful one among the mad world.

As long as one is putting effort (False Face) to show a happy face to near and dear ones, it means that we have not yet riped, hence we are facing this strife. But once we really cross the ocean we will no more require to show a happy face, for we are Happiness - Bliss!

I feel, Bhagawan kept silence to some people because they were not evolved enough to understand his statements, but eventually all such people understand Ramana's teachings and statements by his grace. what is the point talking about Brahma Jnanam to a person who is not ripe yet?

« on: June 03, 2009, 08:34:34 AM »
Its an innate desire of every spiritual aspirant to see, feel what the Brahman is, here is one nice way by which on can feel, perceive the Brahman or the Consciousness.

Lay down flat, breath in and out for sometimes, begin to watch your breath, normilise your body. now breath in a long breath and then slowly breath out and stay in that state without breathing as long as you are comfortable. now look within, stay flat, don't move an inch, no matter whatever discomfort you feel, remember that all the disscomfiture is not yours but your body's. You can perceive your heart beats. stay motionless. keep observing within.

Now, apart from the heart beat, (whatever else is there is the Real YOU) there will be some other thing that is alive and sharp, it's you, this is Consciouness. You are this, you are not your body, not your heart, not your legs, hands, and all other organs. Not even your eyes, if you observe, you will be looking within NOT throught your eyes, you are looking withing through your conscioussness, you don't need those pair of eyes here.

This is just a peek into the eternal Consciousness. You will see that you are totally different from your body and all other perceiving objects.

I was contemplating on this Spider and the Bumble Bee... Suppose our near and dear one is trapped in a Lion's Den and is stuck, unable to pull out the stone, would we simply let it be as it is? will we let even our near and dear one also be food for the lion! This will be the real test for us!   ::)

A very popular example which everyone would have come across.

Take different brands in Chocolates - Cadburys, Nestle, Amul, Ravalgon, Parrys, etc... (Various Gods)

The Sweetness remains the same in all the brands. Seek for the sweetness and not the Brands (Various Gods).
All Brands Give same sweetness. For Some like Cadburys, some Amul, etc... but they derive same ecstasy as what other would get from a different brand.

Seek the sweetness in and not the God.

So when we see Rama, we should just not see the figure. see that which you will find even in Krishna and Shiva, Murugan, Devi, Aiyappa, Ramana, Ramakrishna, etc...

When you begin to see what it is, you will discover that it is LOVE.

The Truth is God is a very poor man, He can only Give us LOVE alone, he cannot give anything else for he does not have anything to give. If you ask for LOVE he will give you in Abundance and then by this our life will begin to brim with happiness.

Beautiful !

Yes, usually its the tendency among people to think that something is going to happen, that they will suddenly leave their home and everybody and go away to some noland and sit in some garb with beard and wait for people to gather among them and then they can start telling fortunes Future and Past of people ..., etc....,

After all what else is there so that one can change to apart from Himself. Is Consciousness something that can put various Masks so that it can change itself as something?

That which we think it is, is not
That which we don't think, it is
That which only is.

The source of everything is Brahman alone.

Dear Ramanaduli,

Definitely, the poem has sprung from Ego only. According to me, Ego as two faces, one is a Good Face and the other is a Bad face. Nourishing the good ego implies to nourishing Satvic qualities whereas nourishing Bad Ego implies to nourishing Tamasic and Rajasic qualities.

All the great works on God and His glories have sprung from this Satvic Ego which is actually good and encouraged by the scriptures. Once when this Satvic Ego is completely established, it becomes easier for one to realise the Truth.

The True Self is not even bothered about all these, but as Subramanian has pointed in several posts about the concept of Shuddha Manas, many Sages have for the sake of posterity have produced so many wondrous works.

The heart does not go anywhere, The Heart remains. Infact its the same eternal I which is covered with the various Blanket of Ego does various actions. Ego is not different from you, you are that Ego also, but you (Consciousness) are covered by Satvic, Rajasic and Tamasic blankets. Just remove these blankets one by one till you remain with only Satvic Blanket and then finally remove the Satvic blankey.

Nature and Bhagawan are one and the same. Nature is Bhagawan, Bhagawan is nature, the Seer and the Seen are one and the same. Bhagawan would not at all have "Seen" nature. He see's only himself in everything. But for us Mumukshu's we still linger around the Seer and the Seen. This is what is called Maya. When the Seer and the Seen are one and the same, perceiving them as different is Maya, i.e. thinking that Nature is different from you (I) Infact you don't see anything. You see only yourself everywhere, I am THAT, I am Bahman, TatvaMasi, etc... You are that, that is not different from you, is the voice of Vedanta.

Therefore Nature is misunderstood as Maya Nature is You, You are that Nature, You don't see Nature for you are Nature, You don't see anything in reality.

Infact, the subtle confusion can be summed up with this statement

Thinking/Assuming Maya as Maya is the Biggest Maya. Maya is illusion.

So don't give it any image. If we say Maya, why do we give it a picture like Nature, world, etc... ? If you say something as Maya, it means and implies that What I am calling as Maya is only illusion, but at the same time we are subconsciously still seeing it as it is. Seer and Seen. there is no 'Seen'.

« on: June 02, 2009, 08:59:03 AM »
Dear Mohan,

Actually, in case of Kunti, she is not at all affected by grief, infact, her devotion is so emotional that she is enjoying every but of her compay wit the Lord through her prayers. hence by inviting sorrow she is not at all being sadistic. she feel its a great platform for her to remain in Bhakti Bhava. But you see, its a common tendency among people to pray very intensely in times of trouble but seldom pray at times of Happiness!

Pain is a fact that you are living. Painful living is actually goos for your consciousness is more potent and alive during testing times than during regular happiness derived form worldly pleasures. Consciousness is mostly absent during such happy moments.

Sorrow again is only mind made. It may look only outside that Kunti is inviting sorrow, but she is in ecstasy. Infact there is no sorrow at all.

Dear amiatall

Answer to all your question can be summed up with this - so long till the Seer and the Seen are different, so long will the intellectual exercise continue.

The fact is that the Seer and the Seen are one and the same but the Ego thinks it to be different. Just an intellectual understanding of the fact that the Seer and the Seen is one is insufficient. It means there is only ONE and there is no 'Other', in such a case what will that one intellectualise? or what will it enquire? or what else is there apart from it?

Sri Ramana's Who am I enquire will just take you to that Eternal I - the Seer (I - ego) will get merged with the Seen (I - ego, ideas) what remains is only Pure Consciousness alone.

Yes as you rightly said, its only a game for the Ego, the agenda of the Ego is to keep playing this game continuously, it wants to survive, it wants to continue living for countless years. Mind itself is ego. Cutting down everything with all past karmas and tendencies is not easy. It needs SINCERE Practice.

It can be realised NOW. The one that is saying why is there No shortcut is the EGO, realise this that the Ego wants to continue playing games, wants to keep asking WHY's, Questions. This moment you are free as you read this. But the EGo does not let you abide in this moment of peace eternally because it wants to continue living, hence it continues thinking, does something, it wants  only change... Infact even the one who is enquiring is also the Ego only. Ramana says by Self Enquiry this Enquirer Ego will disappear and only the eternal One will Prevail which is Pure Consciouness.

Behind everything, isn't there a witness? That is the eternal (I) all that is being witnessed is untrue, like your own reflection in mirror, it is not you but only your own reflection, whereas the witness you who is looking at the mirror is the real One.

Whenever the mind is occupied with the thought of
any thing, it is immediately assimilated into the nature of that
object, and assumes the same form on itself.

upon seeing or thinking of an enemy, the mind
turns to enmity, at the very sight or thought of its foe; as it
assumes the nature of friendliness, on the visit and remembrance
of a friend.

Again the mind is sweetened (pleased) on relishing the
sweets, and embittered by tasting the bitter. It becomes fond
of the sweet, and averse to whatever is sour and bitter and unpalatable.

So when a ravenous beast comes in the sight of a dispassionate
Yogi, its envious nature is changed to dispassionateness,
and it desists from doing him any injury.
("Good company turns the wicked to goodness").

Know the mind to be the root of all the miseries of life,
and its desires as the sprouts of the forest of our calamities.

Dear Ramanaduli,

If you study yourself carefully, you will discover that there is pinch of desire for the result. this is the problem which most of us face. We have to wipe out/dissolve this salt so that the pure self remains like a Spatika without any desire about the outcome. It does not matter what the fruits are going to be.

The Ego gets disturbed only because of this reason alone - having some sort of desire about how the outcome has to be.

In Upadesa Saaram, Ramana has said -

kartur äjnayä präpyate phalam
karma kim param karma tajjadam

By the will of the Creator, action bears fruit. Is
action, then, supreme? No, it is inert, unconscious.

We don't have any rights whatsoever on our part as to what fruits we are going to get.

éshvar-ärpitam necchayä krtam
citta-shodhakam mukti-sädhakam

That action which is done without personal desire
and whose fruits are surrendered to the Lord,
purifies the mind and leads to Liberation.

By consciously praying to oneself that my duty is to only perform actions and have no rights on fruits, one will abide in peace. Remember the eternal teaching of Bhagawan, whenever you get disturbed -

The Ordainer controls the fate of souls in accordance with their prarabdhakarma . Whatever is destined not to happen will not happen, try as you may. Whatever is destined to happen will happen, do what you may to prevent it. This is certain. The best course, therefore, is to remain silent.

Reflecting thus, the mind-ego will get pacified and abide as peace.

Before performing any actions consciously telling to ourselves that Now, I have only this action to perform, this duty to perform, I will perform it to the best of my abilities. I know that I don't have any rights on what I am going to get back. But Lord give me the strength to accept whatever you give. and at the same time, I also pray Lord to give me strength to bear all difficulties.

By such constant practice in daily life, every moment, the Ego will be trained like a Tiger of the circus. It has to be trained.

Bhagawad Gita also says the same -

karmany evadhikaras te
ma phalesu kadacana
ma karma-phala-hetur bhur
ma te sango 'stv akarmani

You have a right to perform your prescribed duty, but you are not entitled to the fruits of action. Never consider yourself to be the cause of the results of your activities, and never be attached to not doing your duty.

I have come to understand by my own experiences that Spiritual successes only come after this has been mastered.

Sri Ramana

General Discussion / Re: Communicating to death soul
« on: June 01, 2009, 11:55:31 AM »
Death and Birth are only Myth. They don't exist. Its only thoughts. Nobody dies or nobody is ever born. There exists nobody apart from you - "I". Everything else is only ignorance. What dies is only thoughts.

When your near and dear ones die, (They actually don't exist, its only a thought again) what happens is that you - "I" which has been experiencing Life from the shoes of your near one who died actually goes away. One cries because He thinks he can never again live the life of his near and dear one who died.

Therefore communicating with Death Soul is all only ignorance. Is there 2 separate souls so that one soul communicates with another soul? Does the soul die?

If the arguement is that soul never dies, only body dies then why do you want to communicate with the soul? one must be trying to communicate with the dead body, why the soul?

There is nobody to communicate to other than only OneSelf. Here too there is no communication. Communication exists so long ignorence about ones real nature comes in.

These are all only Myths and they only deviate one from knowing himself.
