General Discussion / sankalpA - Procedure
« on: October 20, 2012, 11:15:31 AM »
4. sankalpA

ममोपात्त-समस्त-दुरितक्षय-द्वारा-श्री-परमेश्वर-प्रीत्यर्थं

प्रातः सन्ध्यामुपासिष्ये ॥ (morning)
माध्याह्निकं करिष्ये ॥ (noon)
सायं सन्ध्यामुपासिष्ये ॥ (evening)

mamOpAtta samasta durita kShayadvArA shrI paramEshvara prItyartham

prAtah sandhyAmupAsiShyE (morning)
mAdhyAhnikam kariShyE (noon)
sAyam sandhyAmupAsiShyE (evening)

One may now relax in sukhAsanA now. If sitting in a squatting posture, until next AcamanA.

Clasp the right palm over the left palm, rested on the right thighs near the knee. This is actually a 'muda' for sankalpA resolve. These mudrAs too have their influence.

The Lord has said so in the gitA that if all the karmAs are dedicated to Him, then karmA will not be binding. So in the same spirit, this resolve is made that you are performing sandhyA for shrI paramEshvara prItyartham, ie. for the love of paramEshwarA or Supreme Self with a prayer that 'That' may bless you by destroying samasta durita kShayadvArA destroying all bad and negative vAsanAs within!

Sri Tushnim, Friends,

These names of the Goddess or even better, would be to say the nature of Self, are noteworthy:

Bhakta saubhagya dayini: Who (Self) grants all that is auspicious.
Bhaktipriya: Who (Self) is fond of true devotion.
Bhaktigamya: Who (Self) is attained through true devotion.
Bhaktivashya: Who (Self) can be won over through true devotion.
Bhakti matkalpalatika: Who (Self) is verily a Kalpa Taru, the wish-yielding tree of Heaven that grants all the prayers of devotees.
Bhakta manasa hamsika: Who (Self) is the swan sporting in the Manasa lake of Her devotees’ minds.
Bhaktaharda tamobheda bhanumadh bhanusantatih: Who (Self) dispels the darkness of ignorance in the minds of devotees as the sun’s rays dispel the darkness of the world.
Samasta bhaktasukhada: Who (Self) bestows happiness on all devotees
Bhaktanidhih: Who (Self) is a treasure to Her devotees.
Bhakta chitta keki ghana ghana: Who (Self) is heavily water – laden cloud that makes the hearts of devotees dance like peacocks.

Bhakta-vatsalah –“ One (Self) Whose Love for the devotees knows no bounds.” He(Self) is ever merciful and endlessly kind towards His devotees.

Sri Tushnim,

these emotions need not be feared, these emotions cannot be harmful, the Self still remains as it is. There are several names that represent the Supreme God, Self such as bhakti priya, bhakti vashya, bhakti gamya, bhakta vatsalya priya, and so on, meaning He (Supreme Self, God) is bhakti vashya, bound by the love of bhakti, That is lover of bhakti, that is a lover of the compassion shown by a bhakta.

If you look deeper, the bhaktA and Supreme Self are one and the same. Ones own bhakti is so dear to ones own Self. That is a lover of ones own Self. The Self is a lover of ones own emotions for ones' Self.

The teachings of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi / Re: Our Bhagavan-Comments
« on: October 19, 2012, 08:36:14 PM »
Quote
He asked me if there was a temple in my village. I told him there was. He wanted to know the name of the deity of that temple. I told Him the name. He then said that I should go on repeating the name of that deity and I would receive all the blessings needed."
I came back to Bhagavan's presence and sat among the devotees listening to the learned discussion, in which I had now lost all interest, realizing that the simple humility and devotion of this peasant had evoked a far greater response from our Master than any amount of learning. I then decided that, though a scholar by profession, I should always remain a humble, ignorant peasant at heart, and pray, like that villager, for Bhagavan's grace and blessings.

Sri Swayam,

A very touching incident, indeed! Thank you!

I felt, one of the reasons such incidents touch our hearts more, is because, there is that peasant in all of us, but it is covered with all our intelligence and various other things.

How much should it take that Sri Bhagavan himself got up and walked towards this devotee! truly humbling! Truly humbling!
