Dear Udai,

What you have conveyed is not unknown to each one here. What needs to be done, are you saying now? I claim, Kingdom of God is within me, I am Freedom, already! What about it.

Friend, I do not have anything personal with you at all, it was surprising actually, to see your expression

And then one person comes up and says "you want spice" --- totally unrelated to the topic of discussion -- a discussion about me rather than the topic!

weren't you offened little there? otherwise you would not say so, as in past you have expressed you never get offended as it is only with your views and not yourself, now haven't you see yourself, the person Udai is still present, who is very cautious and affected whenever the discussion is at you and not the topic, you differentiate yourself from topic. But according to your pas expressions, you should not be bothered by it, is it not? I am not offended attitude, I am not this attitude, all run away when pin pricks us, when it matters.

Anyway, as also suggested by Subramanian Sir, this topic is overkilled. I lock herewith. Please feel free to respond in the common discussion thread under general topics, if you will.

I lock this thread with this.

Friends,

It is true, Bhagavan and scriptures, and Shankara too, has said that all is within ones own Self. Ones own Self is Ones Guru etc... but we have to be very very careful in evaluating ourselves, are we fit enough to practice such teachings, we should be prudent enough to accept only those teachings that we are truly able to follow wholeheartedly and be able practice as well. But if, without proper thought, we impose onto ourselves, I am Self, I am Self, and hope that all our vAsnAs may be destroyed by this, we may be wrong and continue endlessly in the cycle of births. We all need divine interventions. very very very very rare are ones who can be able to assimilate and be the knowledge I am Self.

We should be careful not to overestimate ourselves just because of a "know-how" or "knowledge". It could prove detrimental to ones progress.

I remember the excellent verse of D V Gundappa at this context:

ಸರ್ವರುಮ್ ಸಾಧುಗಳೇ ಸರ್ವರುಮ್ ಬೋಧಕರೇ
ಜೀವನಪರೀಕ್ಷೆ ಬಂದಿದಿರು ನಿಲುವನಕ
ಭಾವಾಮರ್ಮಮ್ಗಳೆಳುವುವಾಗ ತಳದಿಂದ
ದೇವರೇ ಗತಿಯಾಗ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ

Sarvarum Saadhugale Sarvarum Bodhakare
Jeevanaparikshe bandidiru Niluvanaka
Bhaava marmangalelu vuvaaga Taladinda
Devare Gatiyaaga - Mankuthimma

Everybody is a Saint, Everybody a Preacher,
Till, Life's tests comes and stands in front,
Inner secrets of nature (vasanas) then rise from the bottom
God is the only refuge then - Mankuthimma

DVG says, Every body is a saint and a preacher, he refers to most of us, we read so many books and assimilate so much knowledge and go about as though we are Saints and also share our knowledge, could be so, even with good intentions. But all these confidence, in our knowledge of Self, Brahma Satyam JaganMithya, Brahmaiva Satyam etc... lasts only thus long, till Life throws upon us some testing times, then all the inner secret feelings (பதட்டம்    தளணம்) begin to sprout that were long hidden by those knowledges "Brahmaiva Satyam & so on" of fear, depression, under confidence, we begin to ponder and pray, O God why Thou test me so much? i cant endure this life,...  we wonder what happened to all our wisdom and capabilities. Then at such a time, Ayamatma Brahma, Brahma Satyam Jaganmithya all disappear and only God is refuge then - Thus says Mankuthimma.

There is an another instance where Annamalai Swami assertively says somebody that if it is highly impossible to practice sAdhanA at ones place, he advises one to leave and come off completely as well, I am unable to find this, if any body finds, i request to kindly present it here. The whole objective is to see facts as facts and he who is humble and recognises ones weakness and responds accordingly alone is blessed with the fruit, of being able surrender to a Guru.

Sri Jewel,

I am merely presenting these words of Sri Annamalai Swami only because all, including myself can benefit. After all what we gain by proving anybody right or wrong. As I find many more interesting quotes, i am just continuing to simply produce the quotes of Sri Annamalai Swami same here.

The jnAni, who is established in the reality beyond the gunAs, experiences only continuous peace and bliss. He alone can help other people by radiating this peace and bliss to them. If you try to help this world with some physical activity, the good that you do  may be more than wiped out by the negative mental vibrations which you inflict on the world. If you make your mind pure, you automatically help everyone in the world because each person will receive a cleansing and healing measure of your own purity.

An ant is walking on the floor with a grain of sugar on its back. Suddenly a man steps on it and kills it. Finish: instant death. We are in the same situation as the ant.

You are continuously radiating a mental energy which affects everything and everyone around you. If you are in a rajasic or a tamasic state you are automatically infecting the world with your unwholesome state of mind.

If you enter a dark place with a lamp, light falls on everyone who is near you. You don't have to tell people, 'I have a light' because they will all be aware of its presence.

In the presence of a jnAni like Bhagavan the spiritual darkness of devotees is put to flight by the radiant light of jnAna. In Bhagavan's case this light cleaned and calmed the minds of all who were near him.

Finding a great Guru like Bhagavan depends on one's karma. One cannot hope to find sucha a Guru unless one has done tapas in previous lives.

The path of jnAna is for those who only have a little karma left. Those who still have many karmas to undergo cannot follow the path of jnAna successfully because they don't have the capacity to be still and quiet. Only those who have learned how to be still can abide in the Self.

If one is lucky enough to find a Guru like Bhagavan one should stay with him and serve him wholeheartedly.

If seekers are always in the company of worldly people who take the mind and body to be 'I', they will get affected by their mind currents. Self-ignorance can be contagious. Don't associate with worldly people. Either do meditation alone or do it with people who are also striving to give up their mental attachments.

I first came to Sri Ramanashramam in 1928. In all the years that have passed since then I have only left Tiruvannamalai twice: once when I ran away to Polur during my first month here, and once for one day when I went to another town to order some lime which was needed for the construction of the dining room. That was more than 50 years ago. I haven't left Tiruvannamalai at all, even for a day, for more than 50 years

I have never done sAdhanA in a city, or even visited one, so I can't give you an expert opinion on this. People tell me that the air in cities is very polluted, that there is a lot of noise, and that the spiritual vibrations are very bad. If you have a choice it is better to do sAdhanA near a Guru or in a sacred place where the vibrations are good. If this is not possible, a place in the country will be better than a place in the city.

Wherever you live, try to avoid associating with worldly people, that is, people who are not doing sAdhanA. try to find someone who is established in the Self and spend time in his or her company. If you cannot have satsang of the formless Self, this is the next best thing. If you are sincere, Bhagavan will arrange all the circumstances of your life in a favourable way. he will put you in a place where you can make the most progress.

Traps of knowledge are much greater than the traps of ignorance.

One should go beyond relative knowledge and abide in the Self.  Real knowledge is such experience, and not apprehension by the mind.
