Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast
enlarged me [when I was] in distress; have mercy upon me, and
hear my prayer.

The whole thing is to love God and taste His sweetness.
He is sweetness and the devotee is its enjoyer. The
devotee drinks the sweet Bliss of God. Further,
God is the lotus and the devotee the bee.
The devotee sips the honey of the lotus.

(The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna)

When you really feel that equal love for all, when your heart has
so expanded as to embrace the whole of creation, you will
certainly not feel like giving up this or that; you will simply
drop off from secular life as a ripe fruit does from the branch
of a tree. You will feel that the whole world is your home.

Amaidhiyaana nadhiyinile oodum,
oadam alavillaadha vellam vandaal aadum,

The boat moves on (functions properly) in a silent(serene) river,
however if there is a limitless flood, it shakes ( turbulent and capsizes),

(we humans are fine when things are going well, but when a catastrophe
(bad time) strikes we get shaken and fall down)

kaatrinilum malaiinilum kalangavaikkum idiyinilum,
karayinile odungi nindraal vaalum

if during huge winds, lashing rains and in heavy thunder,
the boat stays at the shore, then it will live,

(if during bad times, we stay at the shore ( take no risks, or pray god etc),
we will go through the bad phase and good times will come back)

thennai ilankeetrinile thaalaattum thendral adhu,
thennai thanai saaithuvidum puyalaaga varumpoludhu,

the same breeze that gently lullabies the leaves of the
coconut tree, can bring down the coconut tree, when it turns into
a storm, ( the coconut tree can boast as being mighty etc , but when
a storm strikes it goes down)

aatrangarai mettinile, aadi nirkum naanalathu,
kaatradithaal saaivathillai, kanintha manam veelvathillai,

however there is the Hardy Sugar Cane grass(naanal),
which is found in the river bank, ( it is a small plant known to withstand
the severest of storms) it does not go down on any storm, in the same
way a matured mind never sulks and remains unaffected by major catastrophes’.
( naanal may seem a small plant ( compared to the mighty coconut tree) but it
can withstand any amount of storm)

Naanalilae kaal eduthu nadandu vanda penmayidhu,
naanamennum thendralile, thottil kattum menmayidhu,

women and ?naanal? are but the same things (they are strong/mature),
they also have the softness that will build a cradle in the breeze,

Andhiyil mayangividum,kaalayil thelindhu vidum,
Anbu moli kaettuvittaal, thunba nilai maari vidum,

anything which falls in the dusk, will rise back in the morning
(up’s and down’s are a part of life), with the language of love,
all the worries will vanish.

General Discussion / Re: Quotes from Sri Aurobindo and Mother
« on: February 22, 2013, 06:00:13 PM »

You can certainly go on developing the consciousness of the Witness Purusha above, but if it is only a witness and the lower Prakriti is allowed to have its own way, there would be no reason why these conditions should ever stop. Many take that attitude – that the Purusha has to liberate itself by standing apart, and the Prakriti can be allowed to go on till the end of the life doing its own business – it is prАrabdha karma; when the body falls away, the Prakriti will drop also and the Purusha go off into the featureless Brahman! This is a comfortable theory, but of more than doubtful truth; I don't think liberation is so simple and facile a matter as that. In any case, the transformation which is the object of our yoga would not take place.
The Purusha above is not only a Witness, he is the giver (or withholder) of the sanction; if he persistently refuses the sanction to a movement of Prakriti, keeping himself detached, then, even if it goes on for a time by its past momentum,it usually loses its hold after a time, becomes more feeble, less persistent, less concrete and in the end fades away. If you take the Purusha consciousness, it should be not only as the Witness but as the Anumanta, refusing sanction to the disturbing movements, sanctioning only peace, calm, purity and whatever else is part of the divine nature. This refusal of sanction need not mean a struggle with the lower Prakriti; it should be a quiet, persistent, detached refusal leaving unsupported, unassented to, without meaning or justification, the contrary action of the nature.

If ego-sense comes back upon you so strongly, it must be because
something in you admits it. The Mother’s force is there always
and can help you to get rid of these things, but you on your
part must with faith and sincerity accept the Mother and put
yourself entirely on her side so as to make it possible for the
Force to work with effect. When bad thoughts come, you must
reject them, not assent to them in your mind, not give voice to
them in your speech, not believe in them or their suggestions.
These things cannot vanish in a day, but if you do like that, they
will diminish and lose their power to lay strong hold of you and
disturb you, and in the end they will disappear.

Dear Sri Jewel, Subramanian Sir,

wonderful topic, personally i have benefited much from Zen Koans. They are all really beautiful and most importantly simple!

Those of us who have seen "Sholay", a hindi movie may remember the famous toss of coin by Amithabh Bachchan which had the same face on both sides and he decides every decision for the pals (He and Dharmendra)

what does stillness mean? It means ‘destroy yourself ’; because, every name and form is the cause of trouble. ‘I-I’ is the Self. ‘I am this’ is the ego. When the ‘I’ is kept up as the ‘I’ only, it is the Self. When it flies off at a tangent and says ‘I am this or that, I am such and such’, it is the ego.
