O' venerable Brahman, Please tell me, how we may be
able to suppress our egoism or selfishness, for evading
the dangers and difficulties in our course through the world.

चिन्मात्रदर्पणाकारे निर्मले स्वात्मनि स्थिते ।

Vasishta replied, it is by seeking to settle mind in
the resplendent soul, as it shines in transparent mirror of
the intellect, that it is possible for anybody to suppress the
consciousness, of his self or personal existence.

(By losing one's self in the self existence of the Supreme Soul)

Vasishta to Rama

Being the Self is knowing the Self, because there
is only one Self, and not two. This Being and
knowing the Self is abiding in the Reality.

Tripura Rahasya and other ancient works / Re: Nectar from rAmAyanA
« on: May 26, 2013, 06:30:09 PM »

“Divine one, the qualities and glory of Rama, surpass those of all other Ikshvakus. He is the noblest. Rooted in truth, versed in every branch of knowledge, he knows neither jealousy nor envy. His charming disposition makes him easily accessible. Receiving all with goodwill and grace, his compassion is so profound that with a single glance he can delve into the hearts of men. Innumerable and rare are the attributes of Rama. Mounted on horse, elephant or chariot, he never fails to enquire of the welfare of all those that come his way. Each utterance is accompanied by a sweet smile. Like a father and like a friend does he endear himself to his subjects, who adore and worship him. Handsome, as Lord Visnu, he is capable of ruling all the worlds and is the God of gods. To your good fortune and for the welfare of the world Rama is born as your son and is worshipped by the devatas. The world prays and invokes all that is divine for the prosperity and protection of him who never deviates from the path of dharma. He has every virtue. A virtue not possessed by him does not exist in this world. Without delay enthrone Rama as king"

The wonderful responses of various elite monarchs and Sages who were assembled in King Dasharatha's court. Dasharatha had just announced in haste, the coronation of Sri Rama as the King and was surprised himself and wondered if he had erred or had gone wrong, when the elite assembly accepted his sudden decision without any iota of hesitation.

Sri Balaji requested for Abhayashtakam in a different post. This prompted me to open a new topic dedicated just for posting the exclusive Sahithya or poetic literature of Ramana Sampradaaya. Here, let us use this thread exclusively to post the shlokas and poems of Ramana Maharshi. This will be of help for those who wish to cultivate nithya parayana.

Thank you.

Dear Sri Balaji

I have the original sanskrit version. I shall reproduce here the same when time permits.

ॐ येनेदं भूतं भुवनं भविष्यत् , परिगृहीतं अमृतेन सर्व I
येन यग्यस्ताय्ते सप्तहोता, तन्मे मनः शिवसंकल्पमस्तु II

O Lord! The immortal mind by which actions of the past, present and future come into form, and which is at the helm of seven functions (saptahotri yajna ) respiration, sight, hearing, speech, taste, touch and walking (all actions of a person are inspired by mind ), such mind of mine must be of pure thoughts.

(Yajur Veda)

These excellent series of holy mantras known as Shiva Sankalpa are chanted during the Mahanyasa Puja.

Go on doing good, thinking holy thoughts continuously,
that is the only way to suppress base impressions.
Character is repeated habits, and repeated habits alone
can reform character.

Perhaps it does not sink enough as the proverb goes - "familiarity breeds contempt" about the greatness of Shankara Bhagavatpaadaal. The advent of Shankara in this planet is perhaps the most important event in the entire cosmic time atleast in the Kali Yuga! We Ramana devotees may perhaps look in terms of the importance of Ramana Avataram, which has so very simplified the Atma Jnana as sweet and simple of as as a lullaby!

We fail to recognise the depth and the result of Shankara Bhagavatpaadal's advent. If not for him, perhaps our country may have been split into various bits and pieces of different countries following various religions!
