General Discussion / Re: Reflections on Death

?If a man considers he is born he cannot avoid the fear of death. Let him find out if he has been born or if the Self has any birth. He will discover that the Self always exists, that the body which is born resolves itself into thought and that the emergence of thought is the root of all mischief. Find wherefrom thoughts emerge. Then you will abide in the ever-present inmost Self and be free from the idea of birth or the fear of death.?

(Bhagavan in 'Talks with Sri Ramana Maharshi', Talk 80.)

Questioner: Must I not use effort to arrest the movements of the mind?

Nisargadatta Maharaj: It has nothing to do with effort. Just turn away, look between the thoughts, rather than at the thoughts. When you happen to walk in a crowd, you do not fight every man you meet -- you just find your way between.

Questioner: If I use my will to control the mind, it only strengthens the ego.

Nisargadatta Maharaj: Of course. When you fight, you invite a fight. But when you do not resist, you meet with no resistance. When you refuse to play the game, you are out of it.

Buddha's View On Life & Death

"Everything is changeable, everything appears and disappears; there is no blissful peace until one passes beyond the agony of life and death."

"Even death is not to be feared by one who has lived wisely."

"On life's journey faith is nourishment, virtuous deeds are a shelter, wisdom is the light by day and right mindfulness is the protection by night. If a man lives a pure life, nothing can destroy him."

"The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, not to worry about the future, or not to anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly."

I  have never met Sri Graham and whatever limited interactions I had  with him was through this site and I was immensely benefited by this site and it helped me get in touch with some serious spiritual sadhaks both online and also through real life . Sri Graham will definitely be missed by all of us and I do not know who will carry forward this site in his absence . All happens according to Bhagavn's Will and we just have to surrender to it . My condolence to Sri Graham's  family .

Om Namo Bhagavate Sri Ramanaya .

We can judge ourselves as to the spiritual progress we make by the extent to which we are free from seeing defects in others. The wider we grow, the narrower becomes the eye which sees defects in the world.- Swami Krishnananda

Thiru Arutpa by  Purasai E. Arunagiri

My first introduction to Divine Hymns of Thiru Arutpa was through a Cassette on the same sung by Purusai Arunagiri and happy to see the same uploaded on youtube and the list of songs are given below . He has taken just a few verses from each song and compiled this wonderful album . A very devotional rendering of Thiru Arutpa and definitely after listening to the same many will be interested in listening to more songs of Thiru Arutpa .
One thing about Thiru Arutpa is that Saint Vallar had song about most of Hindu Deities ( Ganesha , Subramanya , Nataraja , Ambal ) in  his first 5 volumes and in the 6th Volume he addresses God as Divine Light "Arutperum Jyothi "
