A Devotee: "It also might have fallen into the hands of the sweeper of the car."
M.: "Yes, it could have been, or someone could have taken it and thrown it away on the street. But as soon as I got the diary back, I forgot all those possibilities. What irony! And we live with this mind, which plays tricks on us all the time. So we should always pray: May we not deviate from our goal. May we not forget God when something has been accomplished."

The Mind will always play its monkey tricks and there is a Joke I read in a story book about the same .
Once a person had a severe stomach ache and he prayed to Mother Kali "Relive me of this stromach pain and I will give you 5 Buffaloes for sacifice " , then when the stomach ache was slowly getting relived he felt he was too quick in promising the 5 Buffaloes and revised his offer to Mother Kali saying " Mother Kali I will give you 5 goats for sacrifice " and after few hours when the stomach upset completely got over , he felt that it got over naturally and that Mother Kali did not have a role in his pain getting relived and sarcastically told " Mother Kali I feel you need some exercise why dont you yourself catch hold of 5 sparrows and eat it " and the moment he finished saying that , the stomach pain again got very intesive and he realised his mistake and pleaded forgivenss to mother Kali and told he will keep up the Original Promise itself .

Q: There are many who strive for self-knowledge earnestly, but with scant results. What may be the cause of it?

M: They have not investigated the sources of knowledge sufficiently, their sensations, feelings and thoughts they do not know well enough. This may be one cause of delay. The other: some desires may still be alive.

Q: But can a Guru give realization without words, without trust, just like this, without any preparation?

M: Yes, one can, but where is the taker? You see, I was so attuned to my Guru, so completely trusting him. There was so little of resistance in me, that it all happened easily and quickly.

But not everybody is so fortunate. Laziness and restlessness often stand in the way and until they are seen and removed, the progress is slow. All those who have realized on the spot, by mere touch, look or thought, have been ripe for it. But such are very few. The majority needs some time for ripening. Sadhana is accelerated ripening.

Q: What makes one ripe? What is the ripening factor?

M: Earnestness of course, one must be really anxious. After all, the realised man is the most earnest man. Whatever he does, he does it completely, without limitations and reservations. Integrity will take you to reality.

There is no process to become silent.
To disturb your mind you need process,
but to stay silent there is no process.

Stay in satsang, stay quiet,
always have love with your own Self.

You are not to win it by any attempt or effort.
Simply stay quiet.

If any thought rises, simply find out where it came from.

One day when someone was talking of doing this and that, Bhagavan [Sri Ramana Maharshi] asked, "Why do you think that you are the doer? There lies all the trouble. It is quite absurd, as it is obvious to all that `I' does nothing. It is only the body that acts, `I' is always the witness. We so associate ourselves with our thoughts and actions that we continually say, `I did this or that,' when we did nothing at all. Concentrate on being the witness and let things take their course, they will go on anyhow, you cannot prevent them."

That's the point! Things will go on anyhow, but Bhagavan taught that though we had no power to stop them, we did have the power to observe them from a detached point of view, as the witness and not as the doer. That was the purpose of life, and Sadhana consisted exactly in that.
