I do agree that not much activity is there except for Sri Subramanianji who posts regularly . This forum has seen intense activity , sharp debates etc in the past and it also slows down  in between and this may pick up again . This is a cycle .

"When the Grace of the Guru and God is there, why is the mind still not perfectly controlled?" came a question from Swami Shyamananda.

"There must be self-effort also. Only when there is this self-effort will Grace come. A professor cannot answer the questions for you and make you pass. The Gita says: 'One should raise oneself'. Divine Grace alone helps one to raise oneself. Everybody should work out his own salvation. You may now ask, 'What then is Grace?'

"If an aspirant gets letters from his Guru clearing his doubts, that is Grace. If an aspirant comes here, takes Ganges bath and listens to lectures, that is Grace. Many people, even millionaires, are thirsting
to come and bathe in the Ganges, but all do not get an opportunity of coming and having their wishes fulfilled. If good spiritual books are available for study, it is Grace. If one enjoys good health for practising Sadhana, that is Grace. If God so wishes, He can give liberation to the whole world in an instant, but He does not do so. Grace descends only when there is self-effort."

If we do not resolve to attack the deadly enemy in every nook and corner of our daily life, we shall never get rid of this ghost which we have pampered unconsciously for so long. But what is the means?

There is only one way to overcome the ghost .... to watch it.
Do not fight, do not resist. Only try to watch it, quietly but ceaselessly.

In other words, develop an unconcerned witness-consciousness towards men, things and happenings without, but particularly towards yourself within. It means to carry on the calmness of the mind gained in your meditation to cover your whole day. You will distinctly feel it as an undercurrent of peace and detachment.

During sleep, you have no likes and dislikes. Jnanis and babies manage this while they are awake. Baby mind is good; jnani mind is good; 'I am the body' mind is very, very bad.

Question: It's a poisonous thought!

Annamalai Swami: Yes, yes. The 'I am the body' thought is just as poisonous as a cobra. 'All is my Self.' 'All is the nectar of my own Self.' These are the great affirmations that counter the 'I am the body' thought.

Holding on to one of these sayings is the equal of millions of punyas. If we continuously meditate on the truth of these statements, if we hold on to the truth that they are pointing
towards, countless punyas will accrue to us.

There are many other mantras, but none are as useful as these. Rihhu Gitu says, 'All is one. All is the Self.' This is the truth that you have to hold onto. To the real ?I? nothing is foreign in the entire universe. If you know you are everything, there will be no desire to pursue some things and not others. Do you like or desire your arm more than your foot? When your body is the whole universe, likes, dislikes and desires will be absent.

All the best in your efforts Udai .

Thoughts will come as long as the potential for them is inside you. Good thoughts, bad thoughts, they will all keep coming.
There is nothing you can do about this flow, but at the same time, this flow of thoughts need not be a problem.

Be the Self, be the peace that is your real nature, and it will not matter what comes up. Walk, eat, drink, sleep, meditate, but never think that you are the one who is doing these things. The thought that you are doing something is the thought that is poisoning your life.

Because once you think that you are doing something, you will start to think that you need to be doing something else to put yourself in a better situation. You don't have to do anything to experience the nectar of the Self. All you need to do is drop the idea that you are doing anything at all.

Sadhu Natanananda?s Ferocious Lecture About Self-Enquiry

His face was red with rage. ?What a fool you are!? he told me. ?What do you think you have come to Bhagavan for??

The day he understood his Self Realization, Sadhu Natanananda went incognito. The outward symbol of his becoming Self-realized was his obscurity. He lived alone ? happy to be immersed in the Self all the time.

After Bhagavan?s mahasamadhi in 1950 and until 1967, many did not even know if Natanananda was still alive. Though he stayed in a cottage in Tiruvannamalai, no one knew where he was. Like most of the old devotees, I too thought that he had passed away.

I had spent seven years in the ashram when suddenly one day my friend Dorab Framji asked me, ?Do you know Sadhu Natanananda is alive?? I jumped with joy because I loved his book, Spiritual Instruction, also known as Sri Ramana Darsanam. I paid him a visit. He was an austere man with nothing in his room except for a few loincloths. He blessed me and asked, ?What are you doing? Are you practicing Self-Enquiry??

I replied, ?I am not capable of doing Self-Enquiry. I only chant Arunachala Siva, Arunachala Siva.?

His face was red with rage. I was taken aback because this was my very first meeting with him and I was accustomed to people indulging me whenever they met me.

Not Natanananda! He was a stern and serious man. He raged, ?What a fool you are! What do you think you have come to Bhagavan for? For what function has he chosen you? It is only to make you like him! Read his Forty Verses on Reality, practice Self-Enquiry, BE the truth. That is why you have been chosen!?

I was stunned in disbelief.

To find God you must know how to love, not God, but the human beings around you, the trees, the flowers, the birds. Then, when you know how to love them, you will really know what it is to love God. Without loving another, without knowing what it means to be completely in communion with one another, you cannot be in communion with truth.~ Jiddu Krishnamurti

Short Messages from Sringeri Jagadgurus:

Sringeri Jagadguru narrates incident where Mahasannidhanam, Jagadguru Sri Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha Mahaswamiji, was Antarmukha after doing Maanasa puja (Tamil):

Worship done without fixing the mind on God, however long it may be, brings no benefit ? अन्तर्मुखसमाराध्या बहिर्मुखसुदुर्लभा ? The Goddess is described as being inaccessible to one who is a Bahir-mukha ? one whose mind is turned towards the world, its objects, and the activities in it. Such a man?s worship is merely mechanical. However, when a man is Antarmukha ? one whose mind is turned inward and directed towards Her, the Goddess is easily pleased and comes within one?s reach.

The Jagadguru then recounted an incident from the past when His Guru, Himself and the Mathadhipati of Tarakeshwar Math in West Bengal had proceeded to offer Puja to Sri Tarakeshwara, and how His Guru ? Jagadguru Sri Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha Mahaswamiji was deeply engrossed in the performance of Maanasa Puja to Sri Tarakeshwar. While Sri Sannidhanam and the Tarakeshwar Mathadhipati used the materials to offer worship, the Mahaswamiji had remained motionless and after an hour exclaimed with great satisfaction that He had worshipped the Lord by keeping Him in Ratna Simhasanam and offering various stotras and puja materials. The Jagadguru described that He had seen His Guru as an example given in the name of the Goddess ? Antarmukha Samaradhyaa. Hence it is essential to engage in worship of God without allowing the mind to wander.

Anyone can visit the Ashram but for stay you need to get a prior written permission .  If you get a negative reply them it means you need to apply again at some other time . Right now it is peak season for the Ashram and it will be like this till Mid March . Try requesting a date in later part of March .

'Get out of the Picture...'

Q: We are told of the great avatars, the saviors of the world.

M: Did they save? They have come and gone -- and the world plods on. Of course, they did a lot and opened new dimensions in the human mind. But to talk of saving the world is an exaggeration.

Q: Is there no salvation for the world?

M: Which world do you want to save? The world of your own projection? Save it yourself. My world? Show me my world and I shall deal with it. I am not aware of any world separate from myself, which I am free to save or not to save. What business have you with saving the world, when all the world needs is to be saved from YOU? Get out of the picture and see whether there is anything left to save.

Q: You seem to stress the point that without you your world would not have existed and therefore the only thing you can do for it is to wind up the show. This is not a way out. Even if the world were of my own creation, this knowledge does not save it. It only explains it. The question remains: why did I create such a wretched world and what can I do to change it? You seem to say: forget it all and admire your own glory. Surely, you don't mean it. The description of a disease and its causes does not cure it. What we need is the right medicine.

M: The description and causation are the remedy for a disease caused by obtuseness and stupidity. Just like a deficiency disease is cured through the supply of the missing factor, so are the diseases of living cured by a good dose of intelligent detachment. (viveka-vairagya).

Q: You cannot save the world by preaching counsels of perfection. People are as they are. Must they suffer?

M: As long as they are as they are, there is no escape from suffering. Remove the sense of separateness and there will be no conflict.

This scarce human body is acquired after eighty-four hundred thousand lives; don't let it go to no purpose. Every moment of life is very precious. If you don't understand the value of it then you will only be crying and have nothing in your hand.

You have become a human being, therefore have the strength to consider what is said in the Scriptures, and then you can do the best purushartha (effort for human birthright).

Do not think of yourself as weak and fallen. That which was done up to now, understand that this was unintentional. But now be cautious, apply yourself to doing action fit for a human. On your own accord understand what is good and what is bad. Take to doing that which is good and reject that which is bad.

If having become a human being you do not obtain knowledge of Paramatma then understand that it is as if you have sold a diamond for the price of spinach.

Worship of Paramatma is not for Paramatma. Worship of Paramatma is for the disappearance of one's suffering, disappearance of unrest and the disappearance of ignorance and weakness.

Paramatma is AII-Knowing, Omnipotent and Unlimited Bliss. Worship is a way to get a handle on that unlimited strength. The meaning of human life is accomplishing this work. If no effort has been put in this direction then make sure you learn it by heart and understand.

Question: Has man any free will or is everything in his life pre-destined and pre-ordained?

Sri Ramana: Free will holds the field in association with individuality. As long as individuality lasts, there is free-will. All the sastras (scriptures) are based on this fact, and they advise directing the free will in the right channel.

Find out to whom free will or destiny matters. Abide in it. Then these two are transcended. That is the only purpose of discussing these questions. To whom do these questions arise? Find out and be at peace.
