Dear Anil,
:) Infact we should consider ourselves lucky... our God is Ever Available as Awareness. We have continuous darshan of our God !
Ramana/Dakshinamurthi is ever present as Awareness ... Ever available... :)
What can be more joyous ?

This is  what Bhagwan himself said to Annamalai Swami as not to get attached to his form and Sri Sadhu Om has also reiterated this many times in his teachings on Bhagwan .

Dear devotees, Sri Bhagwan’s Grace was never confined to Tiruvannamalai. HIS GRACE FLOWED THEN AND FLOWS OUT NOW UPON ALL WHO TURNED TO HIM. To imply that the Guidance was and is confined to Tiruvannamalai alone, formerly and now respectively, IS INDEED ATTACHING TOO MUCH IMPORTANCE TO THE BODY. IT IS ALSO TRUE THAT NOW, AS FORMELY, THERE IS A GREAT BEAUTY AND POTENCY  IN A VISIT TO TIRUVANNAMALAI AND SRI RAMANASRAMAM.

Very true .

Dear Atmavichar,
:) Vipasana is a superb technique. But a "Technique" or a "sadhana" is for purification of mind. We should know this clearly.
I believe you understand this difference. :)
Sure I just wanted to know whether you were referring to Vipassana when "Observing the thoughts" was mentioned because that is what Vipassana is popularly for .

Chanting the names of God have a tremendous purifying effect even when chanted unknowingly. What needs to be said of a single divine name chanted with full concentration and devotion? It annihilates all sins. - Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamigal.

Sri Bharati Teertha Mashawamy has compiled a selected 108 Names from the 1008 namavali of Goddess Lalitha Devi for people to chant daily during Navarathri especially for  those who cant do daily chanting of the 1008 names .It is in PDF File and I cant attach it here but is available if you google search it .

Saw the following wonderful input regarding Chanting of Sri Lalitha Sahasranama from Internet .

No doubt that Sri lalita Sahasra Namams are very Powerful.

These Lalita sahasra Naamams are Highly potent and Sacred and very Secret or Rahasya , Namams.

To chant these naamams with Panchatanmaatra Pooja, Anganyaasa and Karanyaasa and therecitation of moola Mantra with 5 Beeja Aksharams, one needs Upadesam from a Sadguru and
certain discipline is a must.

But for all ladies and gents who have no UPADESAM , the Scriptures very clearly said, that these naamams without moola Mantra and Anganyaasa karanyaasa can be recited, with some Suchi and Subratha,.

These Naamams contain, in hidden shape all Beeja Aksharams in the Naamams .So you get FULL BENEFIT.

Please recite with no fear.Lalita is our Mother. She is the Most affectionate Mother.

Be blessed and recite .

The Shastras say that the merit of charity is reduced once you publicise the charity you have performed. Never publicise your charity. - Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamigal

conventional Advaita teachers generally dont teach YV and AG because they teach to a gathering. These texts are best taught to students on individual basis. E

Ok Tushnim , Got it i.e the difference between Gathering and Individual  .Thanks for ur reply .

Observing thoughts is a very good and useful sadhana.

In Buddhism they practice this in the form of a technique called "Vipassana" , so is Vipassana also useful technique ?

Dear Ravi ji,
:) Whats so secretive about Ashtavakra Gita / Yoga Vasishta ?
They contain the essence of Vedantic teaching. Ramana taught even
Ribhu Gita and suggested that people should listen to it.

I have not come across a single situation where Ramana forbade anyone
from studying Ribhu Gita/YV/AG.

As for Sri Ramakrishna, we may have to carefully see why he did it?
There is no way to know.

I am also surprised by the same . Even among Conventional Advaita Teachers ,I hardly find anyone talking about these texts and they confine only to BG , the 10 Classical Upanishads and some Texts of Adi Shankara like Viveka Choodmani , and other minor texts but AG,YV ,RG etc are never talked about or studied in depth . Is it because these texts focus directly on 'I" instead of discussing all 3 i.e Jiva ,Jagat ,Ishwara etc .I am saying this because in one of the talks of Swami Paramarthananda ( I think on his talk on Bhagwan Ramana's  Sat Darshanam ) he said the difference between Bhagwan Ramana's Texts and other regular Advaitic Texts is that Bhagwan focus only on the "I" aspect and does not talk much about Jagat or Ishwara like Other Vedantic Texts . No wonder Bhagwan recommends people to read AG,YV,UG but does not talk about reading Bhagavad Gita , Upanishads etc . This is just my guess . What is your opinion on the same since you have read well the Classical Adviata Texts .
Note : AG - Ashtavakara Gita , RG- Ribhu Gita , YV- Yoga Vashishta

The clan of Swami Nityanandas are increasing.

There is a saying ,as the King so the subjects or otherway as the subjects so is the King . We get only what we deserve . Recently a relative of mine was complaining about the increase in Pseudo Gurus all over and I told him that Pseudo Gurus thrive  because there is a market ready for them  in the form of brainless devotees who expect quick fix solutions to all their problems . We have instant food , instant coffee , instant ATM machine ,instant messaging etc and so also we want a Guru who gives us instant Moksha . "
Lord Krishna ,talks of 4 types of Devotees in Bhagwad Gita
(Bhagwat Gita: Chapter 7 verse 16)
Sri Krishna said: O Arjuna, four kinds of pious men begin to render devotional service unto Me—the distressed, the inquisitive, the desirer of wealth, and the one who is searching for knowledge of the Absolute."

The distressed and desirer of wealth are in Majority and the inquisitive and searching for knowledge of absolute are in Minority and you know now why Pseudo Gurus are mushrooming a lot .They focus on the Majority as that is where the Market is .

Some info on V Subramanya Iyer and his connections with the Ramakrishna Mission
In 1932 the Maharaja of Mysore made a grant to start a Vedanta college for the mission Swamijis, to be conducted primarily by Sri V Subrahmanya Iyer, retired register of the Mysore University and tutor to the Maharaja. The arrangement was that groups of five or six Swamijis would study Vedantic scriptures one after months. And for this a new building was built with the help of the Maharaja. Sri Subramanya Iyer was a good Scholar, knew Sanskrit well, and was well trained in scientific thought and Western Philosophy.

He was also endowed with a critical mind. Hearings of Sri Iyer's scholarship Swami Nikhilanandaji was the first to come to Mysore. He spent almost a year with Sri Iyer discussing Vedanta as a scientific philosophy Nikhilanandaji later became the head of the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Center in New--York, where he edited and published the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna in English. Then came Swami Madhavanandaji, who later became the General Secretary and then the president of the order. He was then translating Shankara's commentary on the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad. He used to discuss it with Sri Subramanya Iyer. These were the earliest people who came informally to study Vedanta. But from 1932 on wards,Belur math started sending to Mysore three or four sadhus every year, to study under Sri Subramanya Iyer. Among those who came in the first batch was Swami Bhuteshanandaji, the previous President of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, who passed away just a year and a half back; and swami Vimuktanandaji, Whose Pre monastic name was Upen Maharaj and who was then in charge of the college at Belur Math. The classes used to be held in the library. In the meantime, a lawyer friend by name Rangachar donated his house situated near the Ashrama in Vontikoppal itself.
