WHO TALKS ABOUT THE VEIL?

D: The Upanishads say, I am told, that he alone knows
the Atman whom the Atman chooses. Why should
the Atman choose at all? If it chooses, why some
particular person?

M: When the sun rises, some buds alone blossom, not
all. Do you blame the sun for that? Nor can the bud
blossom of itself, it requires the sunlight to do it.

D: May we not say that the help of the Atman is needed
because it is the Atman that drew over itself the veil
of maya?

M: You may say so.

D: If the Atman has drawn the veil over itself, should it
not itself remove the veil?

M: It will do so. See for whom is the veil.

D: Why should I? Let the Atman itself remove the veil!

M: If the Atman talks about the veil, then the Atman
itself will remove it.

Yesterday some foreigners asked Mataji ( Ananda Mayi Ma )  questions.

Q: How can I get Self-Realization?

Ananda Mayi Ma: The Self is Swayam Prakash (self-illumined), so you need not do anything.

Q: But have we not to make an effort towards it?

Ma: Yes, there is a veil over the Self and you can remove it by your effort.

Q: What is the process towards this?

Ma: Do you really want it? Then will you do without questioning what I tell you?

Q: (hesitating) I came to India for this purpose and I regard Ramana Maharshi as my guru.

Ma: Then you must do exactly as He tells you. If you want Self-Realization and nothing else, you shall find a way. There is no doubt about it.

This is really the point and justifies what J.Krishnamurti said: “ If one is in dead earnest, this very seriousness becomes the guru.”

But who is in dead earnest?

An excerpt from a Talk by Sage TGN:TRAINED  MIND  IS  YOUR  BEST  GURU
Thanks Ravi for sharing that .I keep reading that article from TGN's book "Practical Philosophy for Peace and Prosperity "and the above quote : Trained Mind is your best Guru has become a sort of pointer for me .
Unfortunately how to train the mind has never been taught in Schools nor at home and hence we have to learn this by trial and error .No doubt lot of Mind traning is available outside but those are very superficial ( they are more like concentration exercises ) and do not look at the mind in its holistic sense in the way our Shastras  look at the mind .
The entire Science of Yoga is about this training of Mind but later when we come to Vedanta we question even the existence of Mind . That is why Swami Sivananda combined both these Sciences together i.e  Yoga & Vedanta - Yoga for training the mind first and then Vedanta to pursue Atma Jnana with a well trained mind ( mind trained in all respects ) .
The book Mind ,Its Mysteries and Control by Swami Sivananda is a Classic book dealing with training the mind through Yoga .

Alcohol, meat, Rajasic foods, cinema, novel-reading, obscene songs, obscene sights, evil company, obscene talks will make the wheel of mind revolve very rapidly whereas fruits, Sattvic food, company of Mahatmas, study of religious books, solitude, Japa, Kirtan, concentration, meditation, enquiry of ‘Who am I?’ will slow down the wheel and eventually bring it down to a standstill.

Regarding  Donation for Annadanam in Temples / Ashrams :

The inflation in essential food items ( rice , dal , cooking oil etc ) is very highly visible and we must take this in to account when making any contributions towards Annadanam in any Ashram / Temple . Some places explicitly state the  amount needed per day for Annadanam ( and change it every 3-5 years keeping the inflation in mind )  but in many places they do not fix any specific amount for the same and allow people to make whatever contributions they feel like doing .
Temples in Tamil Nadu Coming under Governmnet have special Annadanam Hundis and even Arunachaleeshwar Temple has one big Hundi for Annadanam . There are no receipts for the same and u can contribute whatever u feel like .
As regards Ashram better to ask for any specific Annadanam schemes and donate accordingly or if you feel you cant afford that amount  make a general donation .

I have been watching few changes in the few years I have been in Tvnmalai. People are becoming very desperate for the money, from beggars to even pujaris(with due respect).

This is common in most tourist places where there is a lot of floating visitor population .  The people who cheat you or take you for a ride know that you come once in a while and do all their disposal to cheat you or take you for a ride .

Japa is recognized as an indirect means for gaining liberation because it destroys all obstructions and impurities, thereby preparing the mind for the knowledge that is liberation.

In the tenth chapter ( Ch.10 Verse 25 ) of the Bhagwadgita, Lord Krsna says, "Among holy offerings ,I am the Offering of Japa " .Japa, therefore, is something to be done and, as the Lord Himself, in the form of Krsna, has said, there is no activity more efficacious than japa.

Yes thats more or less it. Thats my way too.
BTW , that Shankara Bhasyam book , is a good one.

I like Shankara Bhashya and right now following only Shankara's Interpretation of the Bhagawad Gita and Other texts ( like Vishnu Shasranama ) .It is not that I am against Ramanuja , Madhawa schools etc . I can follow only one Sampradaya and I doubt whether one life time is enough to digest the works of one Achraya of a particular Sampradaya and that is why I just stick to Acharya Shankara Works  as explained by Swami Paramarthananda   and after I have progressed with that and have got all my doubts cleared I intend to study Bhagwan Ramana's works seriously .
But I do read at times Aurobindo's works and also some Vaishnava Teachers like Vellukudi Krishnan , Mukkur Narasimha Chariar, Modern teachers JK ,Osho  , Buddhism , Rationalism , Atheism etc but I do not compare it with  Shankara's view . There is no necessity for me .I just love the diversity of the way each great teacher / thinker views the world / reality and enjoy reading the same .
