Namaskaram, all

I didn't want to start a separate thread for my question. So, I thought I would stick it in here.

How often and when is the Sri chakra puja done in Ramana ashram.  I read somewhere six times a month - every Friday, full moon and ?????

Thank you

My heart goes out to everyone affected by the floods and destruction in North India.  The media in the west is quoting Indian authorities as saying the Himalayan shrines will be closed for the next five years. If this is true, can we expect more people in Tiruvannamalai then?  Higher rents, more traffic, more noise, more pollution, more spiritual tourists wanting to walk the inner path but sweet Arunachala will remain the same until he has had enough.

Dear all,

I think it is raining right this minute in Tiruvannamalai. The webcam has big fresh drops of rain on it and Arunachala is looking so beautiful through those drops.

Dear Subramanian sir,

Is the Kavyakanta Sastri's Asramam (or Choultry?) within the Sadhu Om complex?

Dear Subramanian Sir,

Where is Kavyakanta Sastri's Asramam (or Choultry?).  Is it as clean as Ramanasramam?

Dear Balaji,

It is beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

I think it is that Reddiar lady in the blue sari. She has been cooking for the sadhus for 24 years and has become a very evolved soul in the process.  I really like her.

Dear Balaji,

Is your uncle's house near Athithi ashram where they feed sadhus idlis every day?  If so, you are very fortunate.  You must tell us more about him and his project. I believe he has had a lot of miracles happen in his life from doing this one thing.  I wrote about him in another thread, not knowing you were related to him.

Yes, beware of those pickpockets and scouts for other gurus and businesses.... All they do is watch you while you are immersed in the puja.

Can you imagine how busy Sundaram anna and Mani anna are going to be?  I wish there was a way to help the ashram even if we can't be there.

Dear Subramaniam sir,

I am sure it is going to be a grand occasion. Will have to go the webcam way but will miss the prasadam. :-)

Dear Balaji,

The link from the website rarely works but try the link from the email. They usually work.  You are very blessed to be going for the Kumbhabhishekam. It is like Bhagavan has already drawn up a program for you.

According to the latest Sarangati eNewsletter, a Kumbhabhisekam is scheduled at Sri Ramanasramam for Aug 25, 2013. The gopuram and vimanam repairs will take two months and then the kumbhabhisekam.

There is a beautiful picture of Arunachala from the ashram. Check it out.

I am sorry. I don't remember the saint's name. All I remember is that he actually saw all these devas worshipping Arunachala at these spots, knew they were powerful spots on the Girivalam path and built temples for them.

Fast forward to this century,  it was M......  someone who used his own money to take encroachers to court, get custody of these temple and renovate them.  In the end,  it cost him his health - diabetes, heart problems etc.

Aiyo!  He was definitely not a politician  :D

He was a Shaivite saint from a few centuries ago.  These ashta lingas were already there when Bhagavan arrived in Tiruvannamalai.

Yes, stopping at the eight cardinal points where the ashta lingams are is a great way to recoup your strength and help you concentrate.  I read somewhere that an evolved soul actually saw these eight dieties worship Arunachala at these spots and decided to construct temples for them.  This was centuries ago and then in recent times, Moopanar (spelling???) or Murugunar got them renovated and fit for worship again.

Namaskaram all,

In these days of Twitter, I think the human concentration span is like 20 seconds.   :D  That is why we need to do sadhana e.v.e.r.y d.a.y. at home. Stopping by the temple on your way back from work, is not it.

One Tiru elder told me that a regular human being, with no real problems,  needs atleast 3 hours of concentrated sadhana per day to survive the world.  I think Kunju swami, who was Bhagavan's closest attendant, also told Ganeshan Anna that he spent atleast a quarter of his day doing spiritual practices - and this person lived near Bhagavan all the time.

As for keeping your mind on Arunachala as you do Girivalam, my take on this is start walking, however you walk, and after several girivalams you will find that it is so much easier to walk by keeping your mind on Arunachala. On my first girivalam, all I could think of was how hot it is in India and how much my body hurt.  But Arunachala being the loving father that he is has helped me out on girivalams after that.

General Discussion / Re: does name Japa help churn the NAdis?

Japa does not work for me. I go to sleep every time I attempt. Or, if I am awake, I become terribly bored with it.
It means japam is working very well for you. When you start cleaning a room, a lot of dirt will come out. You just have to plug through it till the room sparkles. Similarly with japam.

Read Swami Sivananda's book on Japam or his website.  There is a lot of info on it that will inspire you to do japam.  The Swami Sivananada I am referring to is of the Divine Life Society,  Rishikesh. His book is the go to book on japam.
