The teachings of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi / Re: Karma
« on: August 10, 2011, 08:41:01 PM »
I the grace of God bound to Karma or is it free?

Individuals have to suffer their Karmas but Iswara manages to make the best of their Karmas for his purpose. God manipulates the fruits of Karma but he does not add or take away from it.

Suppose a man is unemployed, prays to God for a job and finds one
Does this man get the job
- because of his Karma
- because of the gace of god
- because it was his Karma to get the grace of God       ?

When according to his Karma it is impossible for the man to find employment, is it not impossible for God to let the man find a job because "Ishvara does not add or take away from Karma"?

Can everyone chant "Arunachala Shiva, Arunachala Shiva" without initiation?

For doing japa with 'I': is it better to use Sanskrit or one's own native language?

What is 'I' in Sanskrit, aham?
Can this not lead to more egoism?

Dear Jyoti,

What you have written is for maintaining good health
and to follow some yogic practices.  Good health, ok.
But yogic practices are in no way concerned with
Self realization, says Sri Bhagavan.

Arunachala Siva.

I have not posted this article, prasanth_ramana_maharshi has done.  ;)

Arunachala / Re: Parvati Hill
« on: July 02, 2011, 05:00:11 AM »
Here is a photo of that hill.

I found it here.
This view of Arunachala shows the main peak and the two peaks of Parvathi hill forming the face and the lotus of Sarawsthi and the Great Northern Spur represents the Peacock.

On the richardarunachala site I found an article about the creation of a path to Parvati hill.

As you can see, this will open up much more of the area near Parvati Hill, and allow access to the Hill itself. We think this will be much appreciated by those who love Arunachala, and use the Inner Path as a way to imbibe the peace of Arunachala.

What are Bhagavans teachings about Om?
What is the correct way to use Om in meditation?

Arunachala was created when Shiva manifested himself as giantic Lingam.
But what is the origin of Parvati Hill?

In Bengali tradition Lakshmi and Sarasvati are daughters of Durga-Parvati.
But I think those goddesses are not born normal eighter, at least Lakshmi appeares during churning of the ocean of milk.

Is there any legend about why Vishnu and Lakshmi have no children?
Curious: Shiva and Parvati are a rather unorthodox couple, they live in Himalayas, play dice and Shiva loves bhang which Parvati prepares for him. In contrast Vishnu and Lakshmi are much more "orderly". Yet, Shiva/Parvati are parents, Vishnu/Lakshmi not.
