General Discussion / Ardhanarinateshwara Stotra

Found it :

Her body is fair like the campa flower;
His body is like camphor.
She has elaborately braided hair decked with pearls;
And he has matted hair.

I bow to Shivah and I bow to Shiva.

Her body is sprinkled with musk-vermillion powder;
His body is smeared with funeral pyre ash.
She has the power of sexual desire;
And He is adverse to it.

I bow to Shivah and I bow to Shiva.

From Her you hear the movement of tinkling anklets and bracelets,
His lotus feet have glistening anklets of snakes.
She is adorned with golden armlets,
And He has armlets of snakes.

I bow to Shivah and I bow to Shiva.

Her eyes are like large blue lotuses,
His eyes are like the red lotus.
Her eyes are even,
His eyes are uneven.

I bow to Shivah and I bow to Shiva.

She is wearing a garland of mandar flowers in Her hair,
He is wearing a garland of skulls around His neck.
She is wearing silks of divine quality;
And He is clad only by the sky.

I bow to Shivah and I bow to Shiva.

Her hair is dark like the monsoon clouds;
His matted locks flash with the luster of lightning.
She is Lord of All;
He is Lord of All.

I bow to Shivah and I bow to Shiva.

Hers is the dance that creates differentiation;
His is the dance that destroys everything.
I bow to the Mother of the Universe.
I bow to the Father of the Universe.

I bow to Shivah and I bow to Shiva.

Her earrings sparkle with radiant, precious stones;
His earrings are hissing snakes.
He embraces Her;
And She embraces Him.

I bow to Shivah and I bow to Shiva.

General topics / Jnani is not omniscient?
« on: October 01, 2013, 02:53:36 AM »
From here:

Saradamma: Some people think that jnanis are omniscient, that they have access to all the information in the world. The jnani doesn’t have all this information, or need it. If someone came up to me and said that Hyderabad is the capital of India, I might believe him if I didn’t already know that it is Delhi.

God (Ishvara) is omniscient, right?
Than why is Jnani, not?
Should he/she who is one with God not be like God?

A true peace of art this television play comes without special effects ala Hollywood (or Bollywood).

Here 2 scenes from youtube:

Health & Welfare Issues / Sattvic curry recipe for lentils or beens
« on: August 23, 2013, 01:46:32 AM »
I'm going to change my diet towards less meat and more sattvic food.
Therefore I would like to know a recipe for a sattvic curry that gives lentils and beens a good taste..
In my country I can buy curry powder in the supermarket - but I doubt that an Indian would recognize that stuff as 'curry'.
I know there are many different recipes, but does one know a simple one which does not require too many different spices?

General Discussion / Krishna and Rama - did they really live?
« on: August 10, 2013, 02:47:33 AM »
I mean, are they to be regarded as historically confirmed persons?

Health & Welfare Issues / Vedic horoscope
« on: August 09, 2013, 07:02:54 AM »
Does someone know a good astrologer who makes horoscopes out of interest, not for profit?
I would like to have answers to some key questions via e-mail.

The teachings of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi / Karma
« on: August 08, 2013, 11:36:37 AM »
From here:

*M:*  Their destiny is what happens. There is no thwarting of destiny. You mean to say everybody's life is totally determined at his birth? What a strange idea! Were it so, the power that determines would see to it that nobody should suffer.

So there seems a difference here in regard to the teachings about Karma.
Can someone explain this?

General topics / Some questions about Hindu mythology
« on: August 08, 2013, 12:44:53 AM »
As I am not an Indian, Hindu mythology sometimes is confusing for me.
Two questions often come to my mind:
- Why do Shiva & Uma have children but Vishnu & Lakshmi have none?
- Why do Shiva & Uma have sons only, but no daughter?
Books about Hinduism I read often state that this reflects the preference for sons and the aversion for daughters in the Hindu society (because of dowry).

The teachings of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi / Mantra
« on: August 07, 2013, 02:02:28 AM »
From Padamalai, page 225:

Though Bhagavan rarely gave out mantras, when he did, he generally recommended 'Siva, Siva'.
Which other mantras did Bhagavan use, did he also give Shakti or Vishnu mantras when someone needed them?
Muruganar himself was given this mantra by Bhagavan, as were several other devotees including Annamalai Swami, the brother of Rangan (who was one of Bhagavan's childhood friends),
and an unkown harijan.
Did Bhagavan also give a mantra to Ganapati Muni?
He practised mantras, I believe.

General Discussion / garlic & onions
« on: July 26, 2013, 09:31:43 PM »
Are garlic & onions saatvic, were they used in ashram kitchen?
I'm not sure, but I belive that Annamalai Swami ate onions when the weather was very hot to keep his body cool.
What about garlic?

General topics / Madhava Swami
« on: June 21, 2013, 04:46:24 AM »
I currently read Living by the words of Bhagavan which is a biography of Annamalai Swami.
There is some information about Madhava Swami and I was shocked to read that this man had been a misogynist and committed suicide.
What was the matter with him?

The teachings of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi / The Self & God
« on: May 16, 2013, 08:15:12 AM »
What is the relationship between the Self & God?
I currently read about Nisgaradatta Maharaj and he says that "God is the totality of consciousness but awareness is beyond all".
Is awareness the Self?
Than the Self and God are not the same?
