An instance of this love is more valuable than anything previously experienced, as in this union of the
third night His beauty is the soul beauty and the soul's beauty is His.

Saint John makes it clear again and again that the spirit can only be known through love, and not
through mere knowledge, as no amount of knowledge can make us feel love. The joy of final union
is felt by Saint John when he describes, 'The beloved as the silent music and the sound of solitude',
and speaks of the lover (amadeo) transformed into the Beloved (Amado).

Each one of us is a center of life and however close we are to other human beings, our inner life has to
be lived alone, and similarly, we have to die alone.  None can do it for us.  The spiritual quest is a great
adventure, a great discovery .  If we can realize the essence of our life, we would then know ourselves
and know God.  Until we reach the top of the mountain in our spiritual journey we cannot fully realize
the beauty that lies beyond.  However, glimpses of light illumine the path and give us faith to continue
the climb.  The greatest prayers have been for light and love.

Hence Saint John like Jesus says, 'Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and all things shall be added unto
you'.   Thus only when one sees by the inner light and love, like the mystics, can one say with Isaiah,
'The sun shall be more the light by day, neither for brightness shall moon give light unto thee, but the
Lord shall unto thee an everlasting light and thy God thy glory.'

Verse  13:

O Abhirami!  Who gave birth to these fourteen worlds!  The One who protects all these (fourteen) worlds!
Afterwards, for some reason best known to you, you keep all these fourteen worlds within you!  You are
even older to Siva who has got hala hala poison within his throat!  (It is said that only from Adi Sakti -
Siva, Brahma, and Vishu appeared.)  You are the younger one for Tirumal (Vishnu) who is ever said to be
young and beautiful.  You are the result of hard tapas! O Mother Abhirami,  I shall not pray to any god
other than you!

198.  He that would deserve God's Grace ought not to kill any living being for any reason.  Since he has
not the skill to revive what is dead.

199.  That alone is right action, which is done with a peaceful and pure mind;  all action is sinful, which
is done with an agitated mind or from desires.

200.  What have they to gain by practicing tapas, who act with mind at peace, without attachment to
(objects in) this illusory world, and with the mind activities stilled?

201.  The most powerful tapas consists in the Sadhaka maintaining peace of mind, resigning all his
worldly burdens to God.

202.  As the grains that are close to the pivot of a hand mill (are not crushed), so those that have taken
refuge with God are unaffected by the severest of afflictions.

203.  Those that have minds fixed with love on God, as the magnetized needle points always fixedly to the
north, never swerve from the straight path through ignorance.

204.  Never worry thinking, 'when shall I attain this state?'; this state transcends both space and time
and is neither far nor near.

Arunachala Siva.

Verse 133:

The supreme reality is not known (objectively), since, when you become pure consciousness, and then
become the One that makes this consciousness known, both of these come to an end.  Wicked wretches!
How then can you hope to experience that reality through the false understanding in which you grasp it
for a while with ego consciousness, then let it go again?

When the disciple comes to realize  that his nature is pure consciousness, the realization arises within
him that he is also the source of that consciousness, that the two are not different.  At this point the
house cards which is the triad of knower, known, and knowledge collapses, discriminating knowledge
ends and he remains as the non dual Self.  How then can the concept of the Self or Sivam remain?
Therefore, if even those who have realized the Self are themselves quite incapable of experiencing that
state as something separate from themselves, how ludicrous is it that those who have not known
the Self should claim it to be able to do so?

In the latter part of the verse, what is being referred to are the phenomena experienced sometimes
as a result of prolonged spiritual practices, and sometimes spontaneously, in the form of vision of gods
and saints, heightened visual, mental and emotional experiences and so on.  Such experiences are
never permanent, in spite of attempts to prolong them and regain them after they are lost. On these
grounds alone they are therefore known not to be the experience of reality which is being sought.

Verse  464:

This Atman fills all.  Beginning-less, endless, that which cannot be measured, changeless, and One
without a second -- is Brahman.   There are not many in this world.

Verse 465:

The consolidation of existence, of knowledge, the eternal essence of blissfulness, without actions, and
One without a second is Brahman.  There are not many in this world.

Verse 466:

Always uniform, ever full, endless, omnipresent, and One without a second is Brahman.  There are not
many in this world.

Verse 467:

Unavoidable, superlative, it cannot be handled;  and without any receptacle (being the receptacle of all)
and One without a second is Brahman.  There are not many in this world.

Verse 468:

Attribute-less, part-less, ever free, subtle, changeless, spotless, and One without a second is Brahman.
There are not many in this world.

Verse 469:

You cannot ascertain any form of Brahman.  Beyond mind and speech and One without a second is
Brahman.  There are not many in this world.

Verse 470:

Reality Itself, established in its own glory, pure, intelligent, incomparable, and One without a second
is Brahman.  There are not many in this world.

Whilst he flourished as a Jain eminent,
Tilakavatiyar firm-rooted in the ancient way of tapas
To snap all nexus with kith and kin, resolved to tread
The pure way of the Lord's and took to the adoration
Of the Lord's hallowed feet.

Thus he shone in splendor as the greatest Jain.

To the study of all Jain works rare and great

Over-joyed at his superiority and conferred
On him the title "Dharmasena par excellence."

To Pataliputra he repaired and found
His way into the assembly of the Jains;
Him the sly Jains strong in chicanery
Surrounded, and lulled him into thinking
That "the way to liberation was here",
By deft glimpses projected bright as truth, but all false;
These they did to win him over to their fold.

He knew well the mutability of the world.
"I will not in this impermanence get involved."
Thus he resolved and totally renounced;
As the Lord had not yet blessed him with the knowledge
Of the ways of religions, he joined Jainism which throve
Lurking under the umbrage of the doctrine of non-killing.

Charity indispensable for all that dwell on earth.

The misery of him whose mind is spotless, thus ended;

The impermanence of the ways of the world;
He dispensed wealth and gained glory on earth;
Impelled by mercy he established very many alms-houses
And also set up water-booths.

"Live he must, the brother younger" she resolved
And it was pure mercy which thus compelled her will;

Thus she bore love benign for all beings that breathed;
Tilakavatiyar remained indoors poised in sheer askesis.
