A vistor came to the Asramam on 10.2.1946 with a book called Sri Ramanopakhyanam.  His name was Thangavelu Nadar.  Bhagavan Ramana told Devaraja Mudaliar that it was not about anything about His teachings but the one which contained some stanzas found in some Nadi horscope of Bhagavan Ramana,
with notes and commentaries of another gentleman who was then editing a Tamizh paper.  Bhagavan
added that besides this version, some other Nadi version of Bhagavan's horoscope have been traced
and sent to the Asramam by different devotees.  Bhagavan Ramana added that there were various
people in the country who claimed to have various Nadis.  We don't know whether they are
correct or not.  This Thangavelu Nadar was originally from Kumbakonam.  There also used to be one
Swami at Tindivanam.  When anyone went to him, he used to tell them:  "You must go
and have darshan of Ramana Maharshi, at such and such time, on such and such date."
This gentleman's name is also indicated in the Nadi horoscope and they used to come here
and tell me about it!

(The Supreme Science as Taught by Sri Ramana.)

The original is in Sanskrit.  I am giving only the English translation.

Benedictory Verse:

We bow our heads to the Holy Ramana, the Ocean of Grace, the Infinite, Incommesurable,
Unborn Primal Divinity, Guru of all Gurus, shining in the Hearts of all creatures as 'I'.

1.  'Homage to Sri Dakshinamurti, manifest in three forms as God, the Guru, and the Real Self,
whose form is infinite as the sky'.  Dakshinamurti was the name of the God when He appeared as
the Primal Guru and taught the sacred mystery of the Supreme State, by Silence, to the four sages,
Sanaka, Sanandana, Sanatana and Sanatkumara.  Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi has said that these
three are the three stages of Divine Grace; first God, then the Guru, and lastly the Real Self.

2.  Herein is expounded the Teaching about the Natural State of the Real Self, known as Right Awareness,
which was taught in the Mandukya and other Upanishads, and has now been taught by the same Divine Guru,
along with the means thereto, as experienced by Himself.

Verse 31:

O Devi Abhirami! You and Your consort my Master, remain as single form with male and female halves.
You have made me to do service to you.  Hence there is no other religion for me to think. There is
no mother too for me. The desire to have a woman with slender shoulders is also gone!

Arunachala Siva.

As Bhagavan often said, Truth always shines in our Heart with utmost simplicity. shorn of all complexities
that are spun around the ego.  (Talks 96). It is but natural that a Jnani revels in that Wonderland of
ultimate Simplicity, which clothes him with such sublime majesty that shames regal splendor of even an
emperor.  Arthur Osborne put it aptly that even the most beautiful face on earth would appear trivial
besides the sagely benign countenance of Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi, (Osborne pp. 29-30). for He shone
verily as the embodiment of Satyam Sivam Sundaam.

(The next part would appear when the next issue of Mountain Path received.)

Now turning to Bhagavan's teaching, 'Who am I? I feel it is not merely a meditation technique, but a
way of life.  I am elated or disappointed at a turn of events -- who am I?  I am flattered or hurt by
another's action or words -who am I? I am impatient at the progress I am making in meditation -
who is impatient?  I am disappointed at my children not heeding my advice - who is disappointed?

After practicing thus for sometime, the answer begins to appear within oneself as a 'current of awareness',
which one needs to cultivate and nurture.  One then finds one's whole life transformed, with peace
pervading every walk of one's life.  Does it eventually lead to self realization?  But why this doubt -
who is the doubter? Who am I?  One's job is only to persevere. Grace would flow in, when one is ripe
enough to receive it.  As Bhagavan repeatedly exhorted His devotees -- all that is required of one is jut
BE, not to be this or that.

There was a time, when like many of the present generation, I deeply regretted not having met and interacted
with Bhagavan. But no longer.  The books by Osborne and other devotees  are ever available to give every
sincere devotee all the encouragement and guidance that they may need on the spiritual path.  The discontent
has fallen away and the quest has begun in right earnest.  Thank you Bhagavan and than you Osborne!

Arunachala Siva.

I used to pester Bhagavan frequently with my questions.  So, one day Bhagavan said, 'you are always
asking questions.  Some devotees come, sit beside me an d realize what alone has to be known and will
go away.'  I replied, 'What is to be done?  If you have a dunce for your son you will have to din and din
to his ears and teach him.' Bhagavan laughed and remained silent. I realized that many people became
jivan muktas by having Bhagavan's darshan.  Who can describe Bhagavan's greatness?

One day Bhagavan told me that he was where speech was not. Thereupon, I asked Him, 'Why then do you
speak?'  'Out of compassion, I have to speak'  He replied.  I realized then that Bhagavan was Dakshinamoorthy
and speaks only out of compassion for us.

Verse  559:

In ditch or in river, in Siva Khstera or in the field -- whatever the leaf may fall, what is that to the tree?

Verse 559:

Like the destruction of a leaf, a flower, or a fruit is the destruction of the body, senses, vital forces,
mind, intellect, and all -- but not of the Atman of him who stays always in the ever blissful state.
He remains like a tree.

Verse 561:

The consolidation of consciousness is the distinguishing feature of the Atman. That is true. The Upadhis
that are generated from the nescience die.

Verse 562:

"Oh, this Atman is immortal".  This is the declaration of the scriptures as to the immortality of the Atman
even in the midst of everything that undergoes change.

Beauteous and golden, are whisked!"

Tirunavukkarasar came to him and paid obeisance
To him and was in turn adored by Sivapurams's scion,
The divinely truthful and godly child of great gnosis;
Addressing him, Sambandhar said: "O Father, be pleased
To unfold the greatness of Tiruvaroor during these days
Of its festival!" Thus told, he who was ever poised
In the truth of the rare Panchakshara spake thus:

Hearing of the endearing words that the godly child
Of Seerkazhi* dight with tanks where water-crows gather,
Was on his way to receive him, Vakeesar who was
Proceeding to Pukaloor whose river rolls with gems,
Felt supremely happy; when both the holy companies --
True servitors of the Holy Ash --, met, it was like
A confluence of twin seas wrought of moon-rays.

Having been pleased to hear of the coming
Of Arasu, the servitor ruled by the Lord,
To glorious Tiruppukaloor after having hailed
The Ruby-of-far-extending-luster at the Ant-hill
Of beauteous Aroor, borne by a longing to receive him
The godly child* fared forth encircled by thronging devotees.

During that time the godly child* had left
Tiruppukali and was visiting many holy shrines
To adore there the Lord whose jewels are snakes;
Having adored the Lord of Pukaloor, the town ever fragrant
With surapunnai flowers, he was then abiding
At the sacred Matam of Muruganar of peerless fame
Whose threefold sacred thread was flashing like lightning.

A loving desire uprose in his longing heart
To hail the roseate feet of Lord-Siva who
Presides over Tiruppukaloor; with a willing mind
That still abode at Tiruvaroor, he left somehow
That city and fared forth hailing the many shrines
Of the Lord who shares in His left half His Consort,
The daughter of Himavant -- the Lord of mountains.

With servitors standing in the front row, he adored
The Lord with the adoring devotees; behind them stood
Adoring the celestial beings and Munis; he beheld with his eyes

Thinking of Tiruvalivalam where abides the Lord whose
Matted hair sports the river, he there went
And adored the feet of the Lord who is concorporate
With Uma of the sacred breast-band; he hymned
In delight great; he fared forth to Keezhveloor
And Kanrappoor where abides the Lord whose throat
Is like a dark cloud, and sang soulful hymns; impelled
By love unabated, he then returned to Tiruvaroor.
