The leader of the great town was he, hailed
By Van-Tondar as peerless Peru Nampi; he was
Kulacchiraiyar of ineffable glory; firm-poised
In pious servitorship, he would not swerve therefrom.

In hoary, goodly and glorious Pandyan country
Hailed by the great is a town of ever-abiding foison
Called Manamelkudi; it is rich in paddy-fields;
Sugar-canes thrive there; near them grow areca trees thick.

The humble servitor that I am, I historicized
The life of godly Tirunavukkarasar, adoring
That divine Muni's roseate feet-very like soft
Fragrant flowers-, as it lay within my knowledge;
Adoring him as before and blessed with his grace,
I will how narrate the servitorship of Kulacchiraiyar
Which is truly glorious and boundless.

On the Sadayam day of Chitthirai his ascension

All lives from Brahma onward
Were filled inly with great joy.

He hymned the ever-during Tandakam divine
Hailed by all the worlds inclusive of this earth, thus:
"O Holy One! I am coming to Thee!" He completed
The decade; his form was now that of Siva's blissful
Gnosis, seldom accessible; the kingly servitor ruled
By the Lord came to abide for ever under the roseate feet
Of the Supreme One.

The divine Tandakam which oped thus:
"This ocean great of bewildering falsity."

The Self is revealing all the time.  At the waking level, at the dream level, and at the deep sleep level.
The Self reveals because that it is its nature.  The Self is eternal light.  It reveals the world, the body,
the senses and the mind.  Even in deep sleep, where the mind, senses, and the body are absent,
the Self is still revealing.  It is like fire, where the burning capacity manifests when something flammable
like a piece of wood, is brought near it.  Fire burns only when something comes into contact with it.

But unlike fire, the revelation of the Self is always manifest because it reveals not only the presence of
objects, as in the case of waking and dream states, but also the absence of objects, as in the case of
deep sleep.  The power of revelation of the Self is manifest in the presence as well as the absence
of objects.

It is the non-relational Self that becomes the Jiva, due to Avidya. The mind-sense-body complex is a
product of Avidya.  What is called the Jiva is the Self in association with or conditioned by the mind-body complex.  The Jiva is the Self in the body.  Though the Self by its very nature is non-relational, it becomes relational, as it were, with the mind sense body complex and gets involved in empirical existence as the knower, agent and enjoyer.  The Self-in-itself, which is not involved in any empirical experience, is called Tuirya, or simply the Fourth.

What is knowledge (vijnana)?

It is that state of stillness, pure consciousness which is experienced by the aspirant and which is
like the waveless ocean or the motionless ether.

Today is the Liberation Day of Queen Mangayarkarasi, the queen of Pandya king who came back to
Saivism, after Tiru Jnana Sambandhar cured his stomach pain. I have given the detailed story of
the Queen Mangayarkarasi in my serial of 63 Saiva Saints elsewhere.

Day of liberation  - Chitrai month, Rohini star day.

Verse  16:

O the one who looks like a green parrot!  O Mother!  You will be like a brilliant Light in the minds of
devotees who contemplate on You and pray to You.  You are also the substratum of that Light.  You
are like the vacant Andam and spread  like as five elements there!  O Mother, it is a wonder that You
are available to my petty knowledge!

Educative Value:

Education is a 'conversation transmission' and renewal of culture. It should help a person to earn his
vocational aims, as also in the harmonious development of his mental faculties.  The Gita helps to attain
these aims.  In the classroom of the battlefield, Krishna is the teacher and Arjuna the pupil.  The educational
concepts sought to be emphasized here include dharma, swadharma, karma etc., Like an expert teacher,
Krishna reminds Arjuna about his first and foremost duty as a warrior, namely military combat. Sraddha
is the term used to inspire Arjuna, a term replete with references to faith, trust, dedication, and so forth.

The deep sleep state in consciousness:

The deep sleep state takes the inquiry into consciousness much farther.  Deep sleep, by definition, would
have to be a thoughtless state.  Flow of thought is mental activity and signifies wakefulness and awareness.
I, as a person cease to be in deep sleep.  'I fell fast asleep.  I know nothing' is your quote and mine.
This is said by us on waking up, not sensed by us while in deep sleep. The continuing identity of the same
I-person is not questioned.  Without the physical body, without even the subtle mental-body, where was this
'I'?  He surely was, for he returned. Thought is to Total Consciousness what a wave is to the ocean.  Flow of
thought is what we call 'the mind'. Total consciousness manifests as individualized mind through one brain,
just as Total Electricity manifests as light through one bulb.  When switched off, electricity goes into the
unmanifest mode.  And the room goes into darkness.  Deep sleep ism the switching off, when the relative
consciousness becomes unmanifest and the person knows nothing.  'I knew nothing' he says. You and I
have said it  But the I-ness, the insignia of consciousness, has continued through waking, dream, and deep
sleep states.  The brain was not essential for the existence of consciousness, it was only essential for its
manifestation as the mind. The switched off bulb will light up again.  The sleeping man will wake up.
But when the bulb has fused it cannot lit again.  That is death.  The body dies when the contact with the
consciousness current is destroyed, when the circuit is broken permanently.  The bulb goes into the dust
bin;  survivors take the corpse to the graveyard or the crematorium.

Total Consciousness is seamless, shoreless. Is it not my mind that knows time and space?  Time and space
are contents of my consciousness.  How then can they be the container of my consciousness?  If my brain
matter is producing consciousness, then of course I am in time, but if in reality the reverse is true, then time
is in me.  It means that I am coeval with time. I am as eternal as time is.  Bodies are born, grow and die
but the Consciousness that is reflected in the experiencer, the ego or the psyche or the I-ness of the individual
cannot cease to be.  Death is only a changed state of consciousness. An anonymous poem says it perfectly:

Do not stand at my grace, and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.
