« on: October 22, 2016, 10:14:34 AM »
Today the 22nd October 2016, is the Punarvasu star day, the star on which Sri Bhagavan was born.
Sri Rama was also born in the same star.

The Asramam celebrates every Punarvasu Day, with special abhishekam, alankaram and arti for
Sri Ramaneswara Mahalingam.

Muruganar has written a poem (Sri Ramana Sannidhi Murai) on the glory of Punarvasu.  This is called
Punarvasu Vannam.

I shall give one verse from Tiruchuzhiyal Padigam (Decad on Tiruchuzhi).  The decade is quite noteworthy because Sri Muruganar says:  "Even if I forget you, my tongue would utter your Name."  The Name and Form are quite important in bhakti marga.

Verse 423:

Lord Ramana, Master of Wisdom shining
On the Vedas' lofty crown,
Because I came to You I have gained
This bliss unparalleled
Lord of ancient Pandyan Tiruchuzhi,*
Be still, clear minds adored,
I may perhaps sometimes forget You
But my tongue shall for ever Your Name utter.

(* Tiruchuzhi is in Madurai district which was capital of ancient Pandyan Kingdom.)

மாமலையாள் முலைச்சுவடும்
    வளைத்தழும்பும் அணிந்தமதிப்
பூமலிவார் சடையாரைப்
    போற்றியரு ளதுவாகத்
தேமலர்வார் பொழிற்காஞ்சித்
    திருநகரங் கடந்தகல்வார்
பாமலர்மா லைப்பதிகம்
    திருவாரூர் மேற்பரவி.

Worshipping the Lord of long matted hair where He wears
The crescent and flowers of Konrai,
The Lord who bears the marks of the breasts and the bangles
Of the great Daughter of Himavant, and singing
A decade-- a flower-garland of Tamizh verse on Tiruvaaroor--,
He left the divine city of Kaanchi girt with gardens
And rich in meliferous flowers.

To him that hymned and adored Him in ecstasy, the Lord
Gave a darshan of His aeviternal splendour with His Consort;
This he hailed in devotion great; folding
His hands above His head he worshipped Him, moved out
And sojourned there in joy, hailing the Lord.

When the Lord unknowable to Vishnu who burrowed
The earth and to Brahma who winged the cool sky,
Restored to him the eye-sight and revealed to him
The mark of His Consort's breast, he rushed close
To His presence, fell down in worship, rose up, and in delight
Burst out with his hymn which opened thus:
"Aalamthaan Ukanthavan.." He sang and danced in joy.

In soaring love; the Lord who grew lithe when His Consort
Embraced Him, restored the vision of his left eye.

Adoring, he prostrated on the ground, rose up,
Again hailed the grace of Grace and moved on;
Following the flawless devotees he came to Tiruvekampam

Of the hoary universe--, bowed before Him
And prayed to Him thus: ?What have I -- the false one--,
To articulate before Your divine presence!?

I was around ten then.  In the neighboring village a mile away, some Tamizh pandits had arrived.
They were reading out the celebrated Tamizh religious epic Tiruvilaiyadal Puranam written by
Saint Paranjyoti and discoursing in Malayalam language.  My father, coming to know of it, took me
with him to attend their discourses. I fervently listened to them. After returning home, my father said,
'All right, recount to your mother now what you have heard!'  And I could relate the entire thing free of
errors too.  My mother was happy and proud of her little son.

This recounting became a daily practice for the duration of those discourses.  It also resulted in my father
taking me to several other venues of such discourses.  Hearing about the faculty of my accurate memory
and verbatim retelling, people from nearby villages began inviting me to their place to listen to my narrations.

Some years went on like this, when one Kodumudi Swami, a celebrated saint,  came on a visit to the Kerala
region.  All that he wore was a loin cloth. He belonged to the sectarian worshippers of Bhairava (Lord Siva
in his fear some aspect). This Kodumudi Swami could perform feats of occult powers.  Crowds of people
thronged to have his darshan.  My father wanted to go and take me alone to see this godman, but I did
not go as I was not interested. I felt that when the Almighty Siva himself appeared to me as my Guru,
giving me initiation by Mantra, what need have to go visit godmen.

22.  I alone am. I alone am; the One. I alone am all, the immortal. I alone am the self agreement.
I alone cause acceptability.

23. I alone am. You are only I, the Self of all, devoid of all.  I am the Supreme Brahman.  I am indeed
beyond the beyond.

24.   I have no ego. I have no sorrow. I have no blemish. I have no pleasure. I have no intellect.
I have no thought.  I have no body, I have no sense.

25. I have no lineage.  I have no eye.  I have nothing that is suitable.  Not a blade of grass there is for me.
I have no repetition or the sacred syllables. I have no world nor do I have a friend.

26. I have no relation.  I have no enemy.  I have no mother nor do I have a father.  I have nothing to
be enjoyed nor there is an enjoyer for me. I have no occupation.  I have no caste.

27.  I have no race.  I have no creed. I have no ears.  I have nothing whatsoever.  I have no exterior.
I have no intellect.  No position for me nor age.

28.  I have no meaning.  I have no world.  I have no peace.  I have no community.  I have no anger.
I have no lust. I am Brahman alone.

Here redeemed and ruled even me.
