    என்றவ ரழைக்க வொட்டா
தீசனார் அன்பர் தம்பால்
    எய்தினான் வெய்ய வேலான்.


When the earthly celestial beings called on the king,
He asked them: "Who may this flawless Poosalaar be?"
Then all the Brahmins replied thus: "He is
A blemish-less Brahmin of this town." Then the King,
The wielder of a fearsome spear would not tell
Them to call him thither; he himself proceeded
To the presence of the Lord's devotee.

மெய்ப்பெரு மறையோர் எல்லாம்
    வருகஎன் றுரைத்தான் வேந்தன்.


Reaching the town he inquired of the people who came
To him, thus: "Where indeed is the temple built
By the devotee--Poosal?" To this they answered:
"Here is no temple built by Poosal."
Thereupon the king spake thus: "May all Brahmins
Poised in truth be pleased to come hither."

Today is Niranjananda Swami Liberation Day.  He is the poorvasrama brother of
Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi.  He attained liberation today and merged in Bhagavan's
golden feet. His Samadhi is inside the Asramam next to his poorvasrama father's
Samadhi.  There will be special poojas for his Samadhi today.

Chapter 28:

1. Ribhu: Brahman alone am I.  Consciousness alone am I.  Blemish-less am I without
interstices. I am only of a pure nature. I am of the eternal form and the supreme.

2.  I am of the eternally blemish-less form. I am the embodiment of the eternal awareness.  I am of the form without beginning or end.  I am bereft of the duality in the beginning or the end.

3. I am  of the ever happy nature. I am one with an ever blissful nature. I alone am the foremost liberated. I am devoid of cause.

4.  I am indeed the supreme Brahman.  I alone am, indeed, I alone am.  Achieve this disposition always and be happy in the blemish-less Self.

5.  Abide in joy.  Abide in happiness.  Be happy continually.  All the Vedas are non different from you.  Imagination is ever naught.

6.  There is never anything called thought force.  There is never any wheel of transmigration. There is nothing ever, never.  The world never is.

7.  There never is the talk of the world.  Then where is the talk about the body?  All is Brahman, just consciousness.  Indeed, I alone am.

8. There is nothing such as 'this is the mind'.  Nor is there anything as 'there is mind'.
The certitude about the existence of something, the talk of the world being real - are false.

9.  The one who posits the existence of something and such statements, the notion that the world has existence, the protector of the world apart from one's Self, the conviction that I am the body.

10.  The notion that this one is a chandala (out-caste), the certainty that someone is a great Brahmin - all are non existent.  Hence, there is neither the phenomenal world nor the mind-stuff, nor the intellect.

Verse 164:

(True Jnanis and false Jnanis alike) proclaim that birth is to be abhorred.  However
will you not recognize those who subside inwardly as their external attachments subside, knowing that the body is an unnecessary affliction, and the true penance is the absence of all attachment, by the simple fact that they demonstrate their lack of attachment to the body (and senses) in their actual conduct? This is the trait by which you will know them.   

Many go about preaching that attachment to the body is the source of suffering, and that they possess the means to remove it, but those ma be only words.  The author
therefore advises us to scrutinize the conduct of those who profess to be teachers of the truth, to ascertain that the words are borne out by their actual behavior.  To clarify the point made, TCS adds the words true Jnanis and false Jnanis in his gloss.

Those who subside inwardly as their external attachments subside - the less one identifies with external things, thinking in terms of 'I' and 'mine', the more one can subside into the inner peace of the Self, and the more one subsides into that peace, the less one is tempted to identify with those external things.

The word mikai, here translated as affliction, means abundance, excess, that which is unnecessary, superfluous and hence arrogance, evil, fault, affliction, error, defect and so on.In the non dual continuous  of the Self there is no body, therefore it is superfluous and unnecessary, and since it causes suffering to those who identify with its illusory existence, it is also an affliction.  Compare Tiruk Kural 345:  To those who have taken up severing of the ties of birth, the body itself is an afflcition. What then of the other attachments?

The phrase onru illamaiye nonpu - true penance is the absence of all attachment is an echo of Tiruk Kural 344:  The nature of penance is to be free of possessions.  Possessions bring back delusion once more.

TCS notes that since the body and the senses are united as one, the word mey - body,
is used figuratively to signify the senses, a figure of speech which is called aakupeyar
in Tamizh, metonymy in English.  The use of word body also reinforces the overall meaning of the verse, in emphasizing the fact that we should pay attention to what the body (mey) does, as well as the words (vaartai) it speaks. This verse forms a link to the following chapter as, having dealt with the topic of non attachment, the author now moves onto the topic of practical physical renunciation.

மருவாரு மல்குகா ழித்திகழ் சம்பந்தன்
திருவாருந் திகழ்தரு வெண்ணிய மர்ந்தானை
உருவாரு மொண்டமிழ் மாலையி வைவல்லார்
பொருவாகப் புக்கிருப் பார்புவ லோகத்தே.

Upon Siva who dwelt in eminent Veṇṇi where there is abundant wealth, those who are able to recite this glittering garland of Tamizh verses composed by Jnana Sambandhaṉ, eminent in Sirkazhi, which is full of fragrance and which is flourishing day by day, will enter into Puva Lōkam and dwell there being equal to the original inhabitants of that world. (Puva Lokam is one of the seven upper worlds above the earth).

விண்டவர் தம்புர மெய்தவன் வெண்ணியில்
தொண்டரா யேத்தவல் லார்துயர் தோன்றாவே.


(Devotees!) Do not get angry by hearing the vulgar talk of the ignorant persons like the Jains and Buddhists who are low.  The sufferings of those who can praise Siva in Veṇṇi having become his slaves, who shot an arrow on the three cities of the enemies, will vanish.

Siva who is the earth which is one of his eight forms, who is as precious as the eye to the immortals as well as to human beings, the cosmic space which could not be known by Vishnu and Brahma of four faces; There will definitely, be no sufferings to those who draw near Siva in Veṇṇi where the immortals worship him.

Siva who smashed the shining shoulders and heads of the demon to lose their luster who tried to uproot the great mountain running towards it out of anger to uproot it without paying heed to the advice of his ministers and Nandī Dēvar, who forgave his foolish act when he praised our Lord in beautiful Veṇṇi, those who praise him will get the strength that comes from spiritual wisdom.

நீந்தானை நினையவல் லார்வினை நில்லாவே.


Siva who destroyed even Manmatha who is victorious over other persons, who sprang upon Yama who kills all, and destroyed him, who covered fully his body with a skin which was flayed from an elephant having a big trunk, the acts of those who can meditate upon Siva, who renounced all desires and who is in Veṇṇi which is worshipped by the immortals, will not stay with them.

Siva who is as precious as the pearl who is the collection of diamonds of great size and a mass of Rubis, the seed from which all came into existence and who is the lamp that never flickers, there will be definitely no sufferings to those who can come near the father in Veṇṇi, who is worshipped by the immortals.

Siva who has water on his head, who wears a garland which surrounds the water which is copious, who has a lady on one half, who has fame. The acts of those who are able to meditate upon Siva who dwells in the eminent place Veṇṇi desiring it, will come to an end.

ஏத்தாதா ரென்செய்வா ரேழையப் பேய்களே.


Siva who is older than all things known to be old, who protected all things having visible form common to all the three worlds, who bound as his protege, growing intimate with those who are tender at heart by devotion. That great person is who is in beautiful Veṇṇi. What will those who do not praise him and who are like ghosts though they are born as human beings, and who are ignorant do?

Siva who is like the ripe fruit, the sage who admits into his grace, growing intimate with those whose hearts become tender by devotion, who has a form common to the three worlds, who has abundance of grace people who have no faults will praise Siva who is the embodiment of sweetness and who is worshipped in Veṇṇi by good people.
