The word 'siddha' means complete, perfect, accomplished from the root 'sidh' 'to attain'. There are two uses for this word.  One use refers to an accomplished one, a seer, a sage, a perfect being, a Jnani, a Mukta. The other use refers to a person who possesses one or more miraculous powers (siddhi).  Bhagavan Ramana used the word in both of these ways. Further, in this regard He said:

'There are two kinds of siddhis and one kind may well be a stumbling block to Self Realization. It is said that by Mantras, by some drug possessing occult virtues, by severe austerities, or by samadhi of a certain kind, powers can be acquired. But these powers are not a means to Self Knowledge..... the other kind are manifestations of power and knowledge which are quite natural to a person when the Self is realized.
They come of their own accord, they are God given.'  (Sad Darsana Bhashya, Kapali
Sastri).

The perceiver of this Substance is done with obstructions
  Finding in all that accrues, the resident Joy
All their needs met; rejecting nothing
  Them, the earthlings praise as the Master Divine.
Wanting nothing they rule the world
  Rejoicing within in solitary companionship of the One
A flood, dear brother, the desired One ever at hand
  Surging from within, the spring of Immortality
The needed ruse to occasion this Eternal
  Bliss flood is indeed simple, very simple!
The act of attention; the phenomenon of thinking;
  The direction within; and Reality is patent.
It is sufficient if one were to reinforce with feeling;
  Praising the Divine omnipresence, gushing too from
  Here within.
It is enough to repeat 'Divine flood which has become all this
  Is bubbling forth from within me.' Feel thus
  That is enough!
No need for ochre robe, nor matted hair
  Feeling conviction is sufficient to attain to the
  Transcendent Reality.
No need for scriptures, no need for cannon
  No need for eulogy. Mind stilled in touch of feeling will do.
No place for tough tapas; none for practice of sadhana;
  The thought given room 'Siva is all that exists,' delivers!
Let the mouth utter, 'The One Sivam, transcendent                  ,
  Standing everywhere, as All, for all time, courses through
  Me here!' That is ample!
Faith for the form, 'The eternal Siva flood of Self
  Surges and flows through me.'
Mind thus permeated, this conviction alone will do!

The first talk, on 'Common Commerce', was held opposite the Eastern Gopuram entrance on 2nd May 1921, and was reported in the newspaper on May 3rd.

The second talk, on 'India's Future', was held in the 16 Pillar Hall in the Big Temple,
on May 3rd and reported in Mitran of May 5th.  (See the Asramam's Tamizh Souvenir commemorating the 125th Jayanti in 2004.).

Thus that silent communion of an hour with Bhagavan Ramana could have taken place
on May 1st 1921.

Sri Ilaya Raaja, renowned composer and ardent devotee of Bhagavan Sri Ramana,
had come across the Day by Day with Bhagavan entry a few years ago, and his curiosity was sufficient enough for him to wish to know which poem among Bharati's body of work around the topic Jnana and Sakti, would qualify as the one written following his undoubtedly inspiring, silent communion in Ramana Mouna magic.

He conveyed his curiosity immediately to Sri Sundaram Anna, our President, who thought it fit to ask me for my input. The literary hound in me awakened and I sifted through the lot of those of Bharati's poems under Vedanta, and leaving aside occurrence of powerful single verses on Advaitic Sahaja Samadhi, I zeroed onto
Para Siva Vellam among those of sufficient 'weight'. It is serendipitous, and stunning,
that we are given a 'feel' of what Bharati found himself helplessly soaked in.

The Surge of Suprme Siva

A Surge there is named God by Vedic sages
 Encompassing all as the Self; within and without
Objects seen, considered in mind, held within
 As understanding -- all arise off that
Limitless, without separation, unattached
 As Being and Absence, confounding the clever ones.
As pure space, as consciousness, as the cloud
 Raining diverse Energies; mating, dispersing atoms
In dimensions gross and subtle and the casual
 Beyond, where all selfhood becomes Self.
Devoid of particular self yet itself the sole one
 Standing all the same as multiple selves
It is here, that many faiths proclaim as
 The omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient Person
This it is that stands as Desire of those desirous
 As their fullfiller and the object and the provider
As sight, the seer and the seen it abides
 Majestic frustrating full analysis.
Though It has of itself become the all, the knowers of Truth
 Swear that but a rare one can know It.
The seer of this is freed of taint, freed of sorrow
 The desirer of this realizes the fruit of all desirables.

விடையார் கொடியான் மேவி யுறையும் வெண்காட்டைக்
கடையார் மாடங் கலந்து தோன்றுங் காழியான்
நடையா ரின்சொல் ஞானசம் பந்தன் தமிழ்வல்லார்க்
கடையா வினைக ளமர லோகம் ஆள்வாரே.


Jnana Sambandhan, who has sweet words of good style and who is a native of Sirkazhi, where the storeys appear with many entrances, sins will not approach those who are able to recite the Tamizh verses in praise of Veṇkātu where the god with a banner in which there is a bull, resides with joy, they will rule over the celestial world.

பாடு மடியார் பலருங் கூடிப் பரிந்தேத்த
ஆடு மரவம சைத்த பெருமா னறிவின்றி
மூட முடைய சமண்சாக் கியர்க ளுணராத
வேட முடைய பெருமான் பதியாம் வெண்காடே.

To be praised affectionately by all the devotees with music, gathering together.
the Lord who fastened a dancing cobra as a girdle, Veṇkātu is the place of the Lord who has a disguised form which cannot be understood by the Jains and Buddhists who have only ignorance and no wisdom.

கரியா னோடு கமல மலரான் காணாமை
எரியாய் நிமிர்ந்த வெங்கள் பெருமா னென்பார்கட்
குரியா னமரர்க் கரியான் வாழு மூர்போலும்
விரியார் பொழிலின் வண்டு பாடும் வெண்காடே.


Veṇkātu where in the blossomed gardens bees hum like music, the Lord who is the property of those devotees who praise that he shot up as a column of fire that could not seen by the black-colored Vishnu, and the one who is seated in the lotus flower.
and is difficult to be reached by the immortals, is the place where he resides.

வளையார் முன்கை மலையாள் வெருவ வரையூன்றி
முளையார் மதியஞ் சூடி யென்று முப்போதும்
இளையா தேத்த விருந்தா னெந்தை யூர்போலும்
விளையார் கழனிப் பழனஞ் சூழ்ந்த வெண்காடே.


Veṇkatu which is surrounded by tanks near the fields which yield produce abundantly,
seeing the daughter of the mountain who has bangles on her forearm to be seized with fear, having pressed down the mountain, wearing the crescent moon that appears every day, is the place of the god, our father, who resides there to be worshipped always thrice without growing weary.

கோள்வித் தனைய கூற்றந் தன்னைக் குறிப்பினான்
மாள்வித் தவனை மகிழ்ந்தங் கேத்த மாணிக்காய்
ஆள்வித் தமர ருலக மளிப்பா னூர்போலும்
வேள்விப் புகையால் வான மிருள்கூர் வெண்காடே.


Veṇkātu where the sky becomes very dark by the smoke that rises from sacrifices,
having killed the god of death who is the seed for killing, by his meditation,
on behalf of the bachelor who praised Siva with gladness [The bachelor is Svetaketu,
a local legend] is the place for the god who made him rule over the celestial world and thereby bestowed his favor on him.

ஒளிகொண் மேனி யுடையா யும்ப ராளீயென்

கெளியா னமரர்க் கரியான் வாழு மூர்போலும்
வெளிய வுருவத் தானை வணங்கும் வெண்காடே.

Thinking that 'you have a brilliant form; you have the Devas as your servants',
the Lord who is easily accessible to the devotees who have the highest limit of love and who weep, rooted firmly in the grace of the Lord; Who is at the same time difficult to be approached by the immortals.  The place where [the Lord of above mentioned qualities] resides is Veṇkāṭu where the elephant of white color is worshipped.

விரையார் கமலத் தன்ன மருவும் வெண்காடே.

Grey hairs appear and the end of the life also draws near, before they approach us.
The place desired by the Lord who makes people who meditate upon him as different from other gods, by their words, steady in their minds, is Veṇkāṭu where the swans are found seated in fragrant lotus flowers.

The place of the Lord who grants happiness so that the mind is pure without any blemish to those who worship with their hands the feet wearing anklets, when tears flow like [a] string of pearls, meditating upon the Lord who has three tanks where cool pearls appear like buds, is Veṇkāṭu where the water of the stream resembling pearls wanders backwards and forwards.

The place where the Lord was residing to remove the approaching sufferings of his devotees who bow to his feet many days, praising ceaselessly He is our Lord;
he will accept us as his protege is Veṇkātu where the parrots speak words like the sound of the Vēdam.

உண்டாய் நஞ்சை யுமையோர் பங்கா வென்றுள்கித்
தொண்டாய்த் திரியு மடியார் தங்கள் துயரங்கள்
அண்டா வண்ண மறுப்பா னெந்தை யூர்போலும்
வெண்டா மரைமேற் கருவண் டியாழ்செய் வெண்காடே.


Meditating in their minds, 'O Lord who has Uma as a half! You drank the poison!'
The Lord who severs the sufferings of the devotees who wander about with devotion, the place of our father, is Veṇkāṭu where the black bees hum like the music of [the] Yāzh [while] sitting on the white lotus.

31.  He who teaches that you are Brahman alone is the Guru.  Be certain of this.
Again, you are that, Brahman.  You alone are the true Guru.

32.  Certitude in the sadguru's words means certitude in knowledge.  He who endeavors
thus always becomes liberated.  There is no question about this.

33.  The statement 'tat tvam asi' is the great aphorism and the Guru's utterance as well. The mind which hears this alone said to be listening. Nothing else is worthy of  calling as hearing.

34. The crux of all utterances of Vedanta is the abidance in the non dual Brahman.
This much is heard from the Guru's mouth.  Thus hear about Brahman.

35. The Guru is no other but the seer of the Mantras.  The sadguru is only one.  By whom it is said 'You are Brahman', he alone is the sadguru.

36.  Listening to Vedanta is called hearing. Nothing else is worth calling hearing.  Inquiring by way of reflection is called reflection.

37.  Thus the sandalwood tree and whatever is heard are examined. Even after 'You are Brahman' is said, doubt is perceived.

38.  Investigate. Be determined.  Thus, inquire well about the self. I tell you here what reasoning is - that the perishable body is not I.

39.  The gross body, the subtle body - gross, subtle and causal; as these three are absent  in the fourth state, all is only consciousness.

40.  All of this is naught, because of being insentient, being the seen and being like the pot (unlike space in it which is not subject to destruction).  I am only consciousness here and because of being the seer not subject to dissolution.
