31.  Even giving away millions in charity is nothing compared to the abidance of 'I am Brahma. All pleasures are just like grass when compared to the abidance of 'I am Brahman.'

32.  The fruit of the disposition 'Brahman is indeed, all' is verily itself.  The equivalent of the abidance of 'I am Brahman' is Brahman alone.

33. Therefore, even while in dream and at all other times, having renounced all with effort, I am Brahman.  There is no doubt of this.  I am my own refuge,

34. I, indeed, am ever, naught else. I alone am ever the Guru. I am the supreme Self.
I alone, am, never another.

35.  I alone the Guru and the disciple. Be of the certainty 'I alone am'.  The limited world pointed out as 'this' is naught.

General Discussion / Re: Two Lovers, One Beloved - Margaret Laulor:

In the  Interior Castle, written between June and November, 1577, she describes her vision of the soul as 'most beautiful crystal globe, made in the shape of a castle, and containing seven mansions, in the seventh of which was the King of Glory, in the greatest splendor, illumining and beautifying them all. The nearer one got to the center, the stronger was the light; outside the palace limits everything was foul, dark and infected with the toads, vipers and other venomous creatures.' (St. Teresa of Avila, Interior Castle, Tr. E. Allison Peers, Garden City: Image Books, 1961).  The soul advances through the mansions, in its quest for perfection and communion with God. (Life, p. 109). The first three mansions correspond to the Purgative stage.

Teresa declares in the first mansion that we are made in the image and likeness of God, but through our own fault 'we do not understand ourselves or know who we are.'
If we understand ourselves we will 'strive to remove the pitch which blackens the crystal.'  In order to know ourselves we must seek to know God. That is to be achieved through embracing the cross:  'let her (him) who is capable of the greatest sufferings suffer most for Him.'  After much physical suffering in her own life she came to scorn her poor health: 'Even if I die it is of little consequence. Rest, indeed.. I need no rest; what I need is crosses.'

Like the sixty three Tamizh Nayanmars, the Siva Sharanas of the 12th century were devotees of Lord Siva, who strove only for his love and grace and created a spiritual atmosphere wherever they went.  The period of the Sharanas is considered a period of great spiritual revolution.  People of all castes and creeds came together to attain the knowledge of bliss and were transformed into Maha Siva Sharanas.   They wrote about their spiritual experiences and their way of life in verses called Vachanas.

Allamma Prabhu was the first leader of the assembly (Shoonya Simhasanadheesha)
at the Anubhava Mantapa, the place where the Shiva Saranas met everyday and shared their spiritual experiences. He guided many devotees on the path of advaita. One of his Vachanas is as follows:

Karpuradha giriyamele aragina kambvidhuda kande,'
Angina kambadhamele hamsaviddudha kande,
Kamba bendhu, Hamsa haariththu noda, Guheswara.

Guheswara is his Ankitha Nama
The Lord of the great secret.
I found a pillar of wax on a mound of camphor,'
I found a swan on the pillar of wax,
The pillar burnt and the bird flew away, Guheshwara.

Role of Semantics in Vedanta:  A Boon or a Bane?

Words are indispensable at one level but need to be set aside at advanced stages of practice once they have served their purpose. However, they are a double edged knife which can cut both ways in the context of Vedantic dissemination because the same set of words can be interpreted in different ways.  For instance, consider the statement:
'There is no one like an enlightened person  - only Enlightenment remains.'  This can be insightful in only one correct sense but can also be understood incorrectly or argued wrongly in other ways which are banal. So, does the fault lies with words themselves per se or does it lie in the unprepared mind that receives it or worse still, does it lie with the teacher who handles the words clumsily in explicating paradoxical
and dicey assertions?

The chaste Tamizh verses composed by Jnana Sambandhan, of a native Sirkazhi, where good people reside, which were offered to esteem as the Lord the god in Mukkeeswaram which was worshipped by the three kings who wore crowns and who were very strong, those who can recite (the verses) are definitely able to rule over heaven also.

Padigam on Tiru Mukkeeswaram concluded.

Buddhist who cover their chests of white flesh, with a cloth and Jains who wander naked, Siva caused the words of those people who talk after eating, defective that is the rudeness committed by the god in Mukkeeswaram, which was reached by the great and exceedingly beautiful Killi, who is skilled in handling the bright Spear, to which flesh is sticking, to worship god. Vishnu in company with Brahma, who dwells on a flower that grows in the water, Siva became truly a mass of fire, to search the famous feet (and head) the uprightness that is done by the god in Mukkeeswaram, where the Pandyan who is preeminent by his fame, Chozha and Chera gathered for worship .

Receiving the water that drags every thing in the red matted locks and kicking the god of death and the idea of holding on the ride side a sharp and good trident of three blades are the strong acts of the extremely angry and strong god who crunched the chest of the demon, who roared loudly opening his mouth, and who dwells in Mukkeeswaram.

Besmearing the white sacred ash like sandal-wood paste, Siva who kept the floods of the Ganga on the matted locks, the reason for dancing along with the lady whose fingers are like the petals of the red variety of Malabar glory lily, he pervades everywhere which can be known only by intuitive knowledge who is capable of knowing the true purpose of the actions done by the god in Mukkeeswaram which was built by a king.
