பூணார் முலையாள் பங்கத் தானைப் புகழ்ந்தேத்திக்
கோணா நெஞ்ச முடையார்க் கில்லைக் குற்றமே.

Vishnu who received the world as a gift in the form of a bachelor (from Mahabali) and Brahma, seated in the (lotus) flower, He who shot up as a column of fire so as not to be seen (by them) praising and worshipping the god who has on one half a lady who wears ornaments on her breasts. There will be no pain for those whose minds do not deviate from the path of virtue.

Arunachala Siva.

God who pressed down to crush the heads and shoulders of demon (Ravaṇaṉ) and who grants his grace to his devotees without being able to conceal it, in Sirkazhi of great bustle, happiness will increase for people who praise and worship him whose fame spreads everywhere. Diseases which are the causes for sufferings will vanish.

Having repeated the names of God in the world fed by rain, in Sirkazhi, of great bustle where the ladies whose eyes are comparable to the carp fish produce the sound of music to spread the fame of god. On those who try to worship and praise the god who is permanent so that their devotion may become satisfactory, the cruel god of death will not hasten (to snatch their lives).

Having drunk the sweet honey in the parks where the slow-moving southern breeze is staying, in Sirkazhi, of great bustle where the bees having lines on them hum like music as they have come into contact with fragrance, those devotees who meditate upon god praising him, Most exalted one who bestows his grace, to remove all bondage, are those who stand firmly in the path of righteousness.

In this world where the sun moves, in Sirkazhi of great bustle where the celestial beings and inhabitants of this world desire to gather, having in their minds the eminent service to god, thinking of him who gave the eminent works of Vēdam, which is memorized by hearing (and not written). Wake up from your sleep! People of this world! All the sufferings will go away without fail.

To enter into the houses, in Sirkazhi, of great bustle where the waves of the roaring sea rise to push the mature coral and mature pearls. "Having cherished with love the god as one who has a skin of wet with the blood of an elephant whose trunk is like the palmyra! The great person!". The devotees who are able think him as such, are people having good minds.

When the tender bees with lines on their bodies hum like music in the gardens which are maintained in perfect condition, in Sirkazhi of great bustle where the balmy southern breeze comes in contact with the buds of fragrance just before they unfold their petals. Having praised with the aid of their virtue done in previous births the god as one who has dressed the matted locks as a crown! The first cause! (the origin of all things!).  There will be no anxiety and suffering for those who worship his feet with their hands.

Having been brought by the ships, the conches of the sea which move slowly,
the waves of the sea from which clouds draw their water. In Sirkazhi of great bustle where they are heaped to a great height on the shore. All disease will be removed if one babbles all the thousand names without ceasing, praising the god as, 'one who has on his matted locks, water! The one who has a frontal eye!'

Sirkazhi:

Verse 1:

In Sirkazhi, of great bustle where the ships that sail on the accumulated waves, reach the shore with beautiful pearls, other precious stones and ornaments. The one who possesses a victorious battle axe!  Praising one who has a bull, the diseases of birth which cannot be cured by other means, will not reach those who can adorn the God with garlands.

11. renouncing remonstrance too, and thoughts created by the mind stuff, leaving aside everything within and being in a state of total void;

12. forsaking even the quiescent state and the oscillating silence thereby, the mind stuff -a feature of contrasting thoughts, and the world fancied by the mind;

13.  forsaking the 'I am the body' egoism referred to as the duality mode, 'I am the all witnessing Brahman' - such alone is the firm determination.

14, 15, and 16: Brahman is ever the doubtless - this is the witness mode. The duality
mode, and the undivided mode, which is the one undivided essence - thus, there are three modes in vogue in the world. The first is a rootedness in duality, the second is the doubt of the witness mode; the third is said to be firm certitude. Investigating the significance of the three modes and casting them aside, become settled.

17.  Abiding in the nature of the one undivided essence, always revel being full of that.  This is the instructions for practice, always the basis for practice.

18. Just as the sandalwood tree is tested, so is the supreme utterance, for reflection.
The three word sentence (Aham Brahmasmi - I am Brahman) exemplified, is to be
meditated upon subjecting It to reasoning.

19.  The import of the word aham (I) is the individual self - The word Brahman denotes Isvara, the Lord. The word asmi (am) symbolizes the state of the nature of being undivided.

20.  Inquiring with the mind, renounce the triad of words and attain the state of the one undivided essence.  This is the characteristic of liberation without the body.

We are faced with a world full of distractions that our mind is only too willing to indulge
in if given the opportunity. After all, that is what the mind is composed of: a mass of thoughts and feelings with no fixed center.  Our task is to center our thoughts into one continuous flow of pure thought (Aham Vritti). If we our home as being exclusively Arunachala Ramana, well and good because we can easily focus our attention just by the remembrance of physically being there.

Memory is a powerful tool that can immediately make us watchful.  The senses of smell and sound are particularly strong in this respect, the waft of Agarbathi or Jasmine all mixed up with the sounds of peacocks calling or the notes of Vedic chanting or Tamizh Parayana takes us there. That is why in part we publish so many photos of the Asramam precincts in the magazine.

For in the mind there is no distance. In one leap we can transcend all barriers.  We use the energy of memory to fuel one pointedness.  In sadness, in joy, in any strong emotional expression we have a potent instrument to bridge the gap between where we are and where we would like to be.  Above all, is the heartache of longing for the Beloved.

The mind is like a smooth plate; its purpose is to contain things.  Thoughts are like
knives, forks and spoons.  They are knobby and generally unstable especially when you carry them on an empty, flat plate.  It requires concentration to keep them from tumbling off.  Have you ever noticed a skilled waiter who carries plates through a crowded restaurant?  He is mindful and his progress through the room is like a ballet of consistent, premeditated motion. We should be like that waiter: aware of where we are going and at the same time fully mindful of what we carry.

When we read or speak the words they should come out of our body and mind.  When
we recite a verse we inhabit it.  Through direct intention we bring the words alive and they leap out of our hearts.  We become its speaker, its instrument.  We let its heart-
beat pulse through us as embodied experience. We now engage in a mutual participation with Bhagavan who is the precipitator of the verse.  The words are the catalyst which breaks down the doors of separation for we have called from one side of the door to the other side and there is a response if we but listen, uplifts us.

Have you noticed that we cannot control the words once we start reciting them?  They control and guide us if we but let go and trust.   One cannot technically say Bhagavan's words are mantras but His hymns to Arunachala can have the same mesmeric effect.  Even Bhagavan was profoundly affected when He composed Akshara
Mana Malai as if a dam had burst and a surge of divine inspiration overwhelmed Him
with a torrent of graciousness.

The problem, if it can be called that, is Arunachala is no meek mass of weak pity
and saccharine empathy.  It is a raw, remorseless power that buries itself in stone.
It is not for the fainthearted.  There is a mythic element to its presence which no reasoning ir conceited explanations can subdue.

Jnana Sambandhan, of Sirkazhi, which has cool water having beautiful waves,
on the king who dwells with desire in the temple in cool and beautiful Kuṭavāyil,
those who are capable of reciting these garlands of shining Tamizh verses, composed by him, will dwell in the heaven of fitting fame as the sufferings caused by depression of spirits, leave them.

Padigam on Tiruk Kudavayil completed.

The Buddhists who covers their bodies with a yellow cloth called sivaram, and the Jains, who have no purity, leaving the insulting slanderous words of those two people,
in Kuṭavāyil which has beautiful storeys. The Brahmins who have proper conduct to praise your feet without any decrease in the quality of their devotion, you have become attached to the glorious temple as your favorite temple.
