To afflict in all places of the seven worlds, mountains, the extensive ocean, the very high sky and the earth, placing their hands on their heads.  (Placing the hands on the head is a sign of distress.)  the hosts of celestial beings who do not wink, worshipped with joined hands singing praises about Siva.  The anger which did not cease even after splitting the body of Tharakan who fled, to come to an end, the feet of our god who dances in the fire, and who performed a great dance, are our refuge.

Arunachala Siva.

Having a single form before the stars and eon and time were created, manifesting himself very well in the form of Brahma, Hari and Rudran, and being the form of the eminent six religions, Siva who stood as a column of fire, swallowing the seven worlds, the sky which is above, and this world.  Assuming the form of a dwarf,
the god with a form who is superior to the child who slept on the leaf of a banyan tree, is our refuge.

Arunachala Siva,

When the tall universe was covered with the floods which were moving swiftly with great noise spreading everywhere, a pillar was standing in the earth and the god, the supreme being manifested in that.  Brahma and Vishnu, to bow down before that saying, there is nothing comparable to this standing on both the sides. The great god whose head which is above and the feet could not be known to them.  Only Siva who has a visible form, and who is superior to the celestial beings who are considered supreme, is our refuge.

Arunachala Siva.

Winding round a big mountain Mantaram - (Meru is another version.)  the celestial beings who do not wink, abandoned the serpent wound round the mountain seized with fear, running helter-skelter on seeing the rising of the poison.  In order to destroy the white color of the tall Vishnu who has the goddess of wealth and to burn the sky, when the poison was increasing in its vehemence rising and going fast.
When the celestial beings requested Siva, "Lord!  Grant us a remedy for this poison with his benign grace."  That Siva is the only supreme Lord of the celestial beings, who consumed the big poison without allowing it to burn all the worlds.

To destroy the haughtiness of the king of Lanka, girt by the sea and black mountain Siva who has an auspicious form and who performed the act of kicking by his holy toe, and became great.  I saved myself by becoming the protege of the god in Aiyāṟu which is surrounded by a wall of enclosure, and who is worshipped by the people of the world surrounded by big mountain addressing him by his name 'Nanti'

As the river Poṉṉi* with sacred water in which there are pearls, pushes up and washes on the banks coral which are crowded, the many devotees bathe in the river and worship Siva many times. You are the eye, you are the apple of the eye, you are my thoughts, you are the pleasures that are enjoyable, you are mathematics, you are grammar, you are the nature of the grammar. (According to Saivism they mean Nadam, Vindhu, and the actions of Vindhu.). You are the space,  you are the Brahmin who burnt the cities in the sky.  I saved myself by becoming the protege of Aiyāru Lord who is always near me.

Siva who is the water!  He who is the fire!  He who is treasure to me!
He who is the right path to me who is the many villages!  He who is the world!
He who is the body!  He who is the life within me!  He who has many names!
He who wears a crescent moon.  I saved myself by becoming the protege of Aiyāu Lord, of insatiate sweetness by uttering the great one who removes all diseases.

Siva who has matted locks one who has a cool crescent moon that crawls in the matted locks. The one who has a bull!  Able person who burnt the cities riding upon a bull! My Lord!  The one who is the refuge for all living beings and who wander from village to village for food by begging alms carrying a broken skull!  I saved myself by becoming the protege of Aiyāru Lord.

You were the fire that destroys everything at the end of an eon.  You stay in the minds of those who meditate upon you. You were the three fires that are indispensable for life to exist in the body. You are in the mouths of people who praise
you.  You are the strong fire that is useful for creation and which was feared by Vishnu and Brahma.  I saved myself by becoming the protege of Siva who has on his spreading matted locks, a cool crescent moon which is like the fire in the ocean.
This fire is in the shape of mare's head and until the time of destruction comes, it would be dormant.  The moon though cool to others will be like fire for lovers who are separated from each other.

Siva who is near at hand to devotees! And who is far away from those who are not his devotees! The one in whom one can repose confidence, one who wears a cloth made a pure gold!  The one who wears skin at the same time!  The one who besmears his body with the powder of holy white ash.  The one who is as valuable as a precious stone! He who is the inner life of those who seek bliss and cure the impurities of their souls!  I saved myself by becoming the protege of Aiyāṟu Siva.

Siva has a sacred body like the red coral, wears on his ear an ornament which is glittering like the stars, and has on one half a lady wearing a collection of bangles and has a waist like the creeper which spreads on a tender branch. I saved myself by becoming the protege of Siva in Aiyāṟu which has beautiful corals, who rejoiced in placing on his growing matted locks, Koṉṟai flowers which unfold their fragrance.

I who am following god like a dog who am as low as a dog am not able to leave the desire for wealth I am incapable of giving even a small amount when somebody wants something to be given;  I got confounded on hearing the moral instruction of Jains, I am coming to have a view of your red feet like flawless flowers, following you.  I saved myself by becoming the protege of Aiyāṟan.

Though the Lord in Pazhaṉam where the swans with feet and feathers as soft as cotton make a loud noise spreading themselves, robbed me of my bangles by deceiving me, does not come to me.  The deity that resides in the circles of Kootal, which placed its red feet as a flower that is worn on the head of Appūti who maintains the three sacrificial fires to make the evils of Kaliyuga to become weak.  (Let the lines for Kootal join together. Drawing Kootal is one of the ways by which love-sick ladies get satisfaction.  This is mentioned in Tēvāram by Appar. Kōzhampam, 4;  Tirumarukal 8;  In this verse there is a reference to Appūti Nāyaṉār who worshipped Tirunāvukkarasar as god himself.  There is no mention of Ravanaṉ in this verse.)
