திரையார்ந்த மாகடல்சூழ் தென்னிலங்கைக் கோமானை
வரையார்ந்த தோளடர விரலாலூன்று மாண்பினீர்
அரையார்ந்த மேகலையீ ரந்தணாளர் தலைச்சங்கை
நிரையார்ந்த கோயிலே கோயிலாக நினைந்தீரே.

You have the honor of pressing down your toe to crush the shoulders which were comparable to the mountain, of the king of Lanka,i in the south, girt by a great sea with waves. You wear a girdle in the waist as an ornament [This refers to Uma who is one half.] [Mēkalai: A jeweled girdle of 7 or 8 strands worn by women on their waists.].  You thought of dwelling in the temple with columns in Thalai Chankai where Brahmins are prosperous, as the temple fitting your greatness.

அடிபுல்கு பைங்கழல்கள் ஆர்ப்பப்பேர்ந்தோர் அனலேந்திக்
கொடிபுல்கு மென்சாயல் உமையோர் பாகங்கூடினீர்
பொடிபுல்கு நூன்மார்பர் புரிநூலாளர் தலைச்சங்கைக்
கடிபுல்கு கோயிலே கோயிலாகக் கலந்தீரே.

Holding fire and dancing to make the golden armors of the feet that embrace them to make a sound, you were united with Uma, who has tenderness like the creeper, on one half. You joined the well-guarded temple in Thalai Chaṅkai where Brahmins who desired the study of the Vēdas, wear a sacred thread on their chest smeared with holy ash, as the temple fitting your greatness.

சலநீத ரல்லாதார் தக்கோர்வாழுந் தலைச்சங்கை
நலநீர கோயிலே கோயிலாக நயந்தீரே.


Being the earth, the water, the sky, the fire and the air, those who controlled the nature of the five sense perceptions. Those who do not commit any false acts, and never cease from praising god in Thalai Chankai where worthy people who are not low by their deceptive nature, live. You desired the beautiful temple as the temple fitting your greatness.

You hold a trident in your hand, you bathe in the holy ash of fine powder just like bathing in water. You have a blue color in your neck.  You received water on your long matted locks. You occupied the beautiful temple in Thalai Chankai where swans stay in the cool littoral gardens where there is plenty of water, as the temple fitting your greatness.

வேடஞ்சூழ் கொள்கையீர் வேண்டிநீண்ட வெண்டிங்கள்
ஓடஞ்சூழ் கங்கையு ம் உச்சிவைத்தீர் தலைச்சங்கைக்
கூடஞ்சூழ் மண்டபமுங் குலாயவாசற் கொடித்தோன்றும்
மாடஞ்சூழ் கோயிலே கோயிலாக மகிழ்ந்தீரே.

You have the nature of thinking of assuming many forms, desiring them.
You placed on the top of your head Gaṅgai too where the white and long crescent
moon goes round and round like a boat; [The crescent moon is compared to the boat;]  You were happy to dwell in the temple at Thālai Chaṅkai which has a pavilion surrounded by tower and storeys where flags are to be seen at the shining entrances, as the temple fitting your greatness.

ஏர்கொண்ட கோயிலே கோயிலாக விருந்தீரே.


You sing to the measure of time [You chant Sama Vedam which can be set to music.] You ride on a bull having red eyes. The devotees who carry water to bathe you and flowers to adorn you and who never leave you, praise you standing. You occupied the beautiful temple in Thalai Chankai where worthy Brahmins who wear the sacred thread and a garland (of lotus) live, as the temple fitting your greatness. [garland of lotus is the distinctive garland of brahmins;].

You admitted me as your protege people, showing the skin and the loin-cloth which is torn from a big cloth. You have a neck which is full of blue color like the sapphire.
You have greatness which is above the greatness of the celestial beings.
You desired to stay in the very beautiful temple in Talai chaṅkai where great men who wear on their chest twisted sacred thread, as the temple fitting your greatness.

Verse  1:


நலச்சங்க வெண்குழையுந் தோடும்பெய்தோர் நால்வேதம்
சொலச்சங்கை யில்லாதீர் சுடுகாடல்லாற் கருதாதீர்
குலைச்செங்காய்ப் பைங்கமுகின் குளிர்கொள்சோலைக் குயிலாலும்
தலைச்சங்கைக் கோயிலே கோயிலாகத் தாழ்ந்தீரே.

Wearing a white and beautiful men's ear-ring made of conch and a women' ear-ring, You are above numbers when the Vēdas describe you, you do not think of any other place (for dancing) except the cremation ground).  You stayed in the temple at Thalai Chankai,  where Indian cuckoos sing in the cool gardens of tender areaca-palms which have put forth clusters of red fruit, as the temple fitting your greatness.

32. Many differences, a rare difference, total differences do not exist.  Brahman is bliss.
There is no doubt of this.  That Brahman am I.  There is no uncertainty about this.

33. The distinction such as Brahman, the distinctions such as the fourth state, difference such as the individual self, the cause of non distinction -- none of these has arisen, none of these, ever.

34.  The indication 'he is God' never, never indeed is.  If it were so, it can be expressed. As it does not, how can it be expressed?

35. In me there is never anything in the least such as 'the supreme', 'the extraordinary'. Vacillation and indeed the mind are non existent, verily non existent.
There is no doubt of this.

36. Be ever fulfilled thus alone and abiding without desire and with intellect subsided never even thinking 'I am Brahman, the all I am perfection.'

37.  'I am bliss. I am the choicest. I am Brahman' -- none of these exist ever.  Nor. 'I am the bliss of Brahman, the great bliss of the Self.'

38.  The great destroyer is never existent. The expression 'This is all', the misunderstanding 'This is not bliss' do not exist.

39.  All is Brahman. There is no doubt of this. That Brahman am I.  There is no doubt
of this.  The concepts of the ideal and its traits, the triad of seer, seen and seeing are completely non existent.

40. Endless non experience and many experiences, all are Brahman.  There is no doubt of this.  I am that Brahman, without doubt.

The question the direct devotees of Bhagavan asked was what do we have now that the physical body of Bhagavan has been laid reverently and with great sorrow into the earth? All those close to him were lost in disbelief that their rock of certainty and wisdom had apparently disappeared. It should be remembered that being in Bhagavan's Presence was not a grave affair where everyone sat around him in hushed, fearful silence.  Yes, there were times when he withdrew and everyone automatically kept quiet. And yes, during the chanting of Vedas in the morning and evening Bhagavan 'went' somewhere beyond the powers of anyone's mind to follow.  But otherwise, he was easily approachable.  His kindness and spontaneous, welcoming smile were immediately apparent to all who came to him with a sincere heart,  There are a few today who are alive and remember those cheerful times with a contented smile.

For most of us, all we have are historical facts and none of the joy of being in his company nor the poignancy of his physical departure.  What we do have today are the photographs, his published words and writings, the stories and the Asramam.  All these contain the possibility that could kindle a flame of inspiration in us.  Perhaps with one of these forms we feel ourselves for a moment whole and alive with the familiar but fleeting happiness of recognition.

We will strive for that home where we may rest content, fulfilled, secure and loved.
It rarely happens, perhaps because what we are convinced is the answer to our prayers
is actually a vision cobbled together of all our various fantasies.  Our true yearning is for home, but that longing becomes diffused and degraded until we know we want, but we are less sure of what we are less sure of what is that we want.

Life is defined  by movement.  Nothing stands still for long, even the food we love best if eaten continuously would become repulsive just our sense of heavenly peace would turn unutterably dull.  The wheel turns and it does so usually when we become complacent with our fate. Then we tend to be thrown off our hard won balance into turmoil by a new invasive and unavoidable element.  It just tales a sharp word, rude
manners or slothful ignorance by others to turn our heads inside out with indignation or uncontrollable anger.  Life is prodding to move on. So in this normal sense, home as we desire is not a physical place, it is a state of mind.  Who has not returned to a childhood home and not felt a stranger?  All that made it home is the feeling of comfort and security and that now only exists as a memory.

Is home then a person or an emotion or a thriving ideal?  If a person or perhaps a family, is it because it is familiar or is it somewhere special where we feel most at ease?  Or possibly where we are intensely alive and fulfilled?  If it is a person then does it matter where we physically are as long as the other person or persons are there in our hearts and minds?  But people age and die.  So that it is not permanent.

செந்தமிழ் பரப்புறு திருப்புகலி தன்மேல்
அந்தமுத லாகிநடு வாயபெரு மானைப்
பந்தனுரை செய்தமிழ்கள் பத்துமிசை கூர
வந்தவண மேத்துமவர் வானமுடை யாரே.

Aall the ten verses which were sung upon the great one who is the beginning, middle and end of all things and who is desirous of Tiruppukali which spreads chaste Tamizh, by Jnana Sambandhan, those who are able to recite and praise with rich music as it comes to their mind, will reach heaven definitely.

Padigam on Tirup Pukali completed.

செற்றவர் விருப்புறு திருப்புகலி யாமே.


The place of the great one who does not accept the faulty words of the Buddhists who wander in large numbers, and Jains who have studied heretic works challenging the authority of the Vēdas, is Tiruppukali which is desired by women wearing gold bangles, and people who have annihilated the sense of the body, which is of five kinds.

நேடவெரி யாகியிரு பாலுமடி பேணித்
தேடவுறை யுந்நகர் திருப்புகலி யாமே.


The father who placed the dancing cobra on the matted locks on which the white specious of Malabar glory lily and curved crescent moon are conspicuous.
Tiruppukali is the city where the Lord dwells, to be searched above and below, desiring to find out the feet and head of the Lord who rose as a column of fire for Vishnu and Brahma to search.

நெருக்குறு கடற்றிரைகண் முத்தமணி சிந்தச்
செருக்குறு பொழிற்பொலி திருப்புகலி யாமே.

The Lord has great fame spreading everywhere. People say that the place of the eminent one who pressed down demon (Rāvaṇaṉ) by the mountain the crowded waves of the scatter precious stones of pearls. It is Tiruppukali which is shining by the gardens which give joy.
