Verse  6:

வல்லம் பேசி வலிசெய்மூன் றூரினைக்
கொல்லம் பேசிக் கொடுஞ்சரம் நூறினான்
புல்லம் பேசியும் பூந்துருத் திந்நகர்ச்
செல்வன் சேவடிக் கீழ்நா மிருப்பதே.


Speaking harsh words, Siva destroyed and talking the three cities which committed cruel acts, with a cruel arrow, thinking to kill them, we stay under the lotus-red feet of Siva in the city of Pūntūṟutti, though he speaks words of abuse.

செம்பொ னேயொக்கும் மேனியன் தேசத்தில்
உம்ப ராரவ ரோடங் கிருக்கிலும்
பொன்பொன் னார் செல்வப் பூந்துருத் திந்நகர்
நம்பன் சேவடிக் கீழ்நா மிருப்பதே.

Though he may be in the earth and in heaven along with the celestial beings, Siva who dwells in the city of Pūnturutti, which has gold and other brilliant wealth, and who has a body as glittering as superior gold itself, we stay under the lotus-red feet of that Siva.

Verse  4:

மூவ னாய்முத லாயிவ் வுலகெலாம்
காவ னாய்க்கடுங் காலனைக் காய்ந்தவன்
பூவின் நாயகன் பூந்துருத் திந்நகர்த்
தேவன் சேவடிக் கீழ்நா மிருப்பதே.

Being the three gods, Brahma,, Vishnu and Rudran, and being their chief and protector of all, he killed the terrible god of death.  The master of the earth, chief who is seated in the heart which is like a lotus flower, we stay, under the lotus-red feet of the god in the city of Pūnturutti.

Sri B.V. Narasimhaswami, author of Self Realization, has given a number of
similarities between Sri Rama and Sri Ramana. 

The most important is their sticking to the truth.

Truth is Sri Rama and truth is Sri Ramana.

Bhagavan  calls it as ulla- porul, that is, the only true Substance.  One can see it
in Ulladu Narpadu.

* * * The Greatness of "Rama" Japa * * *

A devotee asked,
?Swami, what is the easiest way to attain moksha??

Bhagavan Sri Ramana said with a smile,
?As and when the mind goes astray,
it should be turned inward and made to steady
itself in the thought of the Self.
That is the only way.?

Another devotee said,
?To do so, the repeating of the name of Rama is good, is it not??

?Certainly, it is good,? said Bhagavan Sri Ramana .

?What could be better?

The greatness of the japa
of the name of Rama is extraordinary.

In the story of Namadeva he is reported to
have told one devotee,
?If you want to know the greatness of the name of Rama
you must first know what your own name is,
what your real nature (swarupa) is,
who you are and how you were born.
Unless you know your own origin,
you will not know your name!?

This idea is found in the Abhangas
of Namadeva written in Marathi language and
in the Malayalam Adhyatma Ramayana.?

Thereupon Bhagavan Sri Ramana related a story from the latter.

IT IS STATED in that book that
when Anjaneya ( Lord Hanuman) went in search of Sita,
he seated himself opposite to Ravana in the Darbar Hall
on a high pedestal and fearlessly spoke to him thus:

?Oh Ravana,
I give you a teaching (upadesa) for attaining liberation (moksha).
Please listen to me carefully.
It is certain that the Self (Atma) gets purified
by intense devotion to Hari,
who is in the lotus of the Heart at all times.
The ego gets destroyed and
then the sin gets destroyed.
Afterwards, in its place,
the knowledge of the transcendent Self emerges.
With a pure mind and with the Bliss (Ananda)
generated by a firm knowledge of the Self,
the two letters ?Ra? ?Ma?
which are like mantras,
will repeat themselves within you automatically.
What more is required for a person
who has this knowledge,
however little it might be ?
Hence worship the lotus feet of Vishnu,
which will remove all worldly fears,
which are dear to all devotees and
which shine as brightly as the light of a crore of Suns.
Give up the ignorance of your mind?.

This has been mentioned in two or three slokas in the Sanskrit Adhyatma Ramayanam but not as elaborately as
in the Malayalam text.

Is the greatness of the name of Rama ordinary?

மாதி னைமதித் தானொரு பாகமாக்
காத லாற்கரந் தான்சடைக் கங்கையைப்
பூத நாயகன் பூந்துருத் திந்நகர்க்
காதி சேவடிக் கீழ்நா மிருப்பதே.

Siva kept a lady on one half, esteeming her highly, he concealed Ganga in his matted locks, out of love towards living beings. The master of all living beings, we stay under the lotus-red feet of the primordial Siva, who dwells in the city of Pūnturutti.

ஆர்த்த தோலுடை கட்டியோர் வேடனாய்ப்
பார்த்த னோடு படைதொடு மாகிலும்
பூத்த நீள்பொழிற் பூந்துருத் திந்நகர்த்
தீர்த்தன் சேவடிக் கீழ்நா மிருப்பதே.

Tying securely a dress made of skin, though he discharged weapons in the fight with Arjuna, we stay under the lotus red feet of pure Siva, who is in the city of Pūnturutti which has long flower-gardens.

Verse 1:

கொடிகொள் செல்வ விழாக்குண லைஅறாக்
கடிகொள் பூம்பொழிற் கச்சியே கம்பனார்
பொடிகள் பூசிய பூந்துருத் திந்நகர்
அடிகள் சேவடிக் கீழ்நா மிருப்பதே.


Ēkampaṉār in Kachi, which has fragrant flower garden, and never-ceasing bustle due to shouting and dancing, in the flourishing festivals where the flag is hoisted in temples.  We stay under the lotus red feet of Siva, who besmears himself with sacred ash and who is in the city of Pūnturutti.

Verse  10:


ஓத மாகடல் சூழிலங் கைக்கிறை
கீதங் கின்னரம் பாடக் கெழுவினான்
பாதம் வாங்கிப் பரிந்தருள் செய்தங்கோர்
ஆதி யாயிடும் ஆனைக்கா வண்ணலே.

Having become favorably disposed towards the King of Lanka, surrounded by the great ocean having billows, when he sang music with the aid of Kiṉṉaram, a musical instrument the god in Aṉaikkā, the origin of all things, granted his grace taking compassion on him by lifting up the foot that pressed him down.

Padigam on Tiru Anaikka completed.

Verse 9:


நேச மாகி நினைமட நெஞ்சமே
நாச மாய குலநலஞ் சுற்றங்கள்
பாச மற்றுப் பராபர வானந்த
ஆசை யுற்றிடும் ஆனைக்கா வண்ணலே.

My mind which till now did not know about Siva!  Having given up the caste and relations, which are apt to spoil you, the god in Aṉaikka will grant you the desire to obtain the most exalted happiness.

Verse 8:

உருளும் போதறி வொண்ணா வுலகத்தீர்
தெருளுஞ் சிக்கெனத் தீவினை சேராதே
இருள றுத்துநின் றீசனென் பார்க்கெலாம்
அருள்கொ டுத்திடும் ஆனைக்கா வண்ணலே.

People of this world who do not know the exact time when the body rolls on the ground dead!  Without being in associated with sins you be clear in your mind, definitely to all those who say Siva, completely destroying their ignorance, the god in Aṉaikkā will certainly bestow his grace.

Verse 7:

ஒழுகு மாடத்து ளொன்பது வாய்தலுங்
கழுக ரிப்பதன் முன்னங் கழலடி
தொழுது கைகளால் தூமலர் தூவிநின்
றழும வர்க்கன்ப னானைக்கா வண்ணலே.


All the nine gateways in the body which is leaky, before the eagles prey upon it little by little, to those who weep out of joy scattering flawless flowers and worshiping the feet wearing anklets with both the hands joining together, the god in Aṉaikkā is a loving friend.

Verse 6:


நடையை மெய்யென்று நாத்திகம் பேசாதே
படைகள் போல்வரும் பஞ்சமா பூதங்கள்
தடையொன் றின்றியே தன்னடைந் தார்க்கெலாம்
அடைய நின்றிடும் ஆனைக்கா வண்ணலே.


Do not talk atheism believing the order of the world to be true.  The five great elements will come upon you like an army.  For all those who take refuge in him.
the god in Aṉaikkā will remain easy of access to those who want to approach him, without any hindrance.

Verse 5:


வஞ்ச மின்றி வணங்குமின் வைகலும்
வெஞ்சொ லின்றி விலகுமின் வீடுற
நைஞ்சு நைஞ்சுநின் றுள்குளிர் வார்க்கெலாம்
அஞ்ச லென்றிடும் ஆனைக்கா வண்ணலே.


Pay obeisance to Siva daily without deception.  Get away from evil without harsh words.  The god in Āṉaikkā will offer freedom from fear to those whose hearts melt always and feel comforted in mind, to attain liberation.

Verse  4:

நாவால்நன்று நறுமலர்ச் சேவடி
ஓவா தேத்தி யுளத்தடைத் தார்வினை
காவா யென்றுதங் கைதொழு வார்க்கெலாம்
ஆவா என்றிடும் ஆனைக்கா வண்ணலே.


Having fixed permanently in the heart, praising the red feet comparable to fragrant flowers, without ceasing, by words in the proper manner, the god in Aṉaikka will bestow compassion on all those who worship him with joined hands, with a prayer "Protect us removing the Karmas."
