To spread over the fields of red variety of paddy and sugar-canes, and gardens from which black bees rise after drinking honey, in Sirkazhi of great bustle where the long and roaring sea moves about. Bestow on me the benefit of praising as a devotees your feet saying Father Haraṉ! One who became great by crushing the demon in the distant past! in this birth itself.

In Sirkazhi, of great bustle where the people of this world and celestial beings come and meditate daily, with a mind, having learnt to worship god, people of this world!
Be clear in your minds that those who sing the fame with music meditating on the god who has a frontal eye, are people who have destroyed their sins.

and those who think with right conduct uttering those names. They are among those exalted in virtue to save themselves from the cycle of birth and death.

In Sirkazhi, which is in proximity to the sea, where in all the dense gardens flowers give honey in drops and which has good people who worship and praise the god to make the whole of the country shine with fame, the ascetics who are dressed like Siva think of god without ceasing as one who has on one ear a lady's ear-ring moving and a men's ear-ring made of spiraling conch on the other.  Their sins will take leave of them of their own accord. (The past tense is used for certainty).

The sound of the dance when many young girls whose words are as sweet as the melody and sing, daily, in Sirkazhi, girt by the sea, where they abound before one's eyes, the holy slaves of the god, who think very often of the god who has a beautiful lady on his half as our God, are not wanting not only in his grace but also in other worldly wealth which is necessary for enjoying the pleasures of this world.

General Discussion / punarvasu Star Day - 08.03. 2017:
« on: March 08, 2017, 12:47:54 PM »
Today is the Punarvasu star day, the star on which Bhagavan Ramana was born in the Month of Margazhi.  But today is the Punarvasu day of Masi month.

Every punarvasu day of the month, there will be special pujas for Sri Ramaneswara
Mahalingam with special abhishekam, alankaram and arti.  Today such one is done in
Sri Ramanasramam.

I give below the verse of Muruganar to be remembered for this day:

To remember this auspicious day, I give below the verse from Tiruch Chazhal of Muruganar's Sri Ramana Sannidhi Murai:

மற்றுவமை இல்லாத மாதவத்தான் வேங்கடவன்
அற்றவரை ஆதரிக்கும் மந்தநிறை காணேடி
அற்றவரை ஆதரிக்கும் மந்தணிறை ஆயிடில் என்
குற்றுயிரா என் நெஞ்சைக் கொன்றான் காண் சாழலோ. (Verse 1541)

The English translation of Prof. K. Swaminathan is as under:

Unique, unequaled, mighty Master,
Venkata, they say, sustains
The poor and helpless. So they  say.
But look, my heart he has pierced
And left me half dead, What is the game?

31.  All is illusory.  There is no doubt of this.  All is certainly the Self.  Forbearance, deep meditation, earnestness and the utterances of teacher,

32. the longing for liberation and emancipation, the ideal of living for liberation, the definition that one endowed with the four types of spiritual practice is the qualified one,

33.  the ideal of the unification of the individual and Brahman, the certitude that the wide expanse is Brahman, the Vedantic teaching of Brahman and the teacher, -- are all said to be bondage.

34.  The divestment of all forms of Knowledge results in the attainment of Bliss. Thus have proclaimed the primal utterances, the Vedas, that all is unreal, ever.

35.  All forms of words and their imports, and even the conclusive conviction, are unreal. Brahman alone is the supreme Truth.  All else is untrue, ever.

36. Listening to innumerable saying and inquiring into their significance is all illusory.
There is no doubt of this.  I am only Brahman.  There is no uncertainty about this.

37.  It is said that the words pertaining to the study of Brahman are indeed great. All of this is revealed at the time of initiation into Brahma Jnana.  There is no doubt.

38. 'Brahman alone am I', 'this duality', concepts regarding the existence of mind, 'awareness alone am I', 'this is duality', concepts of the individual and Brahman,

39. the mantras 'I am just Consciousness' or the thoughts on cause and effect, Knowledge of the undecaying joy, the one undivided essence, without a second.

40.  'The supreme is Brahman', 'This is Brahman', 'The peaceful Brahman is itself the world', Knowledge relating to the internal senses, the subjugation of the external senses,

41.  all appointed times for instruction, identity, residue, the lofty emanation, earth,
water, fire, air, space, mind and intellect,

42.  cause and diversity of effects, interpretations of the scriptural methods, utterances such as 'I am Brahman', 'This is Brahman' and All is Brahman'-

43. none of these are of the nature of Reality, not even in the least. There is never anything in the name of truth. Doubt, contradiction, and the cause of will are only misapprehension.

1916
It was a divine miracle that the Lord God thus made me his vassal even at that tender age. He deigned to fulfill my wish yet did not provide more than what I required!  No doubt it was a portent of things to come - a monastic, frugal living all through my life. Since those distant childhood times to this day, Bhagavan continues to protect me from the desire to possess more than what is essential for my minimal needs.  One day my father chanced to see my Vibhuti pouch and wanted to know how I came in possession of it.  When I told him what had happened he was amazed.  His affection and care towards me grew all the more for it.

A year went by when yet another desire sprang up in me. This time it was to have a string of Rudraksha beads, an unusual wish that I dared to express to no one.  This wish of mine too was fulfilled by the Lord Almighty thus:  it was my daily habit at that time to go to bathe in the pond along with a playmate of mine.  One particular day, while on our way to the pond, my friend exclaimed, 'Oh! I forgot to do something which my father asked me to!'  So saying, he left me.  As I continued my walk alone, I saw a large sized lotus lying on my path.  When I picked up with curiosity, I was astounded.  A rosary of Rudraksha beads, strung in gold, lay aglitter in the hub of the unusually large flower, the largest one could have ever seen.  Filled with tears of ecstasy, I looked around but could discover no one who could be a likely claimant to it.

With pious fervor, I brought it home and showed the rosary to my father telling him how I had chanced upon it.  My parents and others were just awe struck. Later on my brothers deposited it amidst other articles of worship in the family prayer room.  My heart swells with piety whenever I recall Lord Siva's boundless compassion, which had been a veritable Kalpaka tree to me.  (A legendary celestial wish fulfilling tree that grants every wish of those under it.)

While so, I began to feel a compulsive desire to possess a Vibhuti pouch.  (A thin pouch
of cloth half filled with sacred ash, folded and kept always in their person by devout Saivites.).  In those times, only Brahmins and ascetic sadhus used to carry this pouch. I was now in a dilemma - on the one hand not daring to ask anyone for a Vibhuti pouch,
and on the other, being unable to overcome my longing to possess one.  Once again, the compassionate Lord Siva, as Gangadhara, came forward to quench the burning thirst of a tender child.

Again appearing in my dream, He informed me that there was a few coins lying underneath a particular huge tree, by the very shore of the pond where I bathed daily.
The Lord advised me to pick them up and use them to buy the cloth pouch.  Telling no one, I rushed to the pond next morning immediately on waking and made a search under the tree.  And what wonder!  I did find three quarter ana coins (an ana = one sixteenth of an Indian rupee of those times), lying amidst its twisted roots.  Grabbing them with delight, I washed them clean of mud and took them home.  To avoid being caught shopping by anyone I waited until dark, then visited a store and inquired the price of a Vibhuti pouch.  It came as a surprise when I was told that it would cost three quarter anas!  The exact amount I had unearthed from under the tree!  I tendered the change, bought the pouch and kept it with devout care at home.

About Veṇkāṭu where the god different from the world has on his head a white crescent moon which shines in the sky, resides, (sung by) Jnana Sambandhan, well-versed in Tamizh, and chief of the residents of Shanbai, which is surrounded by cool gardens.  Those who are able to recite these ten verses which are like a garland of good Tamizh which thrives by its melody. He will live in this world flourishing and ascending heaven will reside there to add splendor to the heaven.

They, who are Buddhists and Jains who talk harshly and arrogantly are ignorant persons who say that their words are real doctrines leave their company, those who are endowed with sense! Listen to what I say. You understand that those who say the Lord is in Veṇkāṭu of great extent, and eminence desired by the Vētiyar (Brahmins) will not have even the slightest evil.

These two, one of whom is seated in the red lotus of abundant honey and the other who is lying on the (milky) ocean) one who is difficult to be known though ran and flew high and went on digging the earth to be claimed as his good proteges by Siva.
We will not recognize the knowledge of those whose hearts do not become tender and melt out of love thinking of the Lord in eminent Veṇkāṭu where the white-colored elephant (Airāvatam) did penance, as worthy of being called knowledge.
